The young people in our programmes are the youth this day was always about. They show up. They work hard. They build skills that most people take for granted. And they do it with a commitment and consistency that quietly challenges every assumption about what is possible.

Their futures are not hypothetical. They are being built, one shift at a time, one new skill at a time, one employer who chose to open the door.

🏢 Behind the Scenes | Week One at The Living
Before the training starts, the orientation begins. 🏢

This is our February 2026 intake group doing the Wex Info Quest, a building scavenger hunt where new learners explore Woodstock Exchange and meet the people who work there.

They learn the names of the security team, the cleaning staff, which floor they are on, how many bathrooms there are. It sounds small. It is not.

It is about belonging. Knowing your environment. Feeling at home before the hard work begins.

This week we are thinking about young people and what becomes possible when we invest in them with intention. Happy Youth Day week. 💙

💬 Myth vs Fact | People with Disabilities Can’t Work Independently

Let’s set the record straight. 💬

MYTH: People with intellectual disabilities need constant supervision and cannot handle real workplace responsibilities.

FACT: With the right training and a supportive environment, our graduates work independently, manage tasks reliably and become valued team members.

Independence is not about doing everything alone. It is about having the right support to succeed.

Actually, they can. And they do. Every day. 💙

💼 Thought Leadership | Inclusive Employment: Beyond Compliance

In many South African workplaces, inclusion is still understood as a compliance requirement. A quota to meet. A box to tick. But real inclusion is not about getting someone through the door. It is about what happens next.

Without the right support structures, clear expectations and genuine commitment to integration, employment becomes short-lived. And when it does not work out, the focus too often shifts to the individual, rather than to the environment.

Inclusive employment is a business strategy. Teams that reflect the communities they serve perform better. Employers who invest in job coaching and supported onboarding report higher retention, stronger morale and more consistent output.

Compliance gets someone hired. Culture keeps them. 💙
