Paarl Boys' High Old Boys Union Rugby

Theuns Kruger, was a Paarl Boys' High Old Boy and Springboks player, who would have celebrated his birthday today.

Theunis Lodewicus Kruger (17 June 1896 - 6 July 1957) was a South African international rugby union player who was educated at Paarl Boys' High School.

“Not only was he a grand striker of the ball, but he was deceptively fast and could move around the field at great pace. And that is how he made his name as a great Bok forward. He certainly had the potential to become a Bok captain; indeed, he was an excellent captain of Transvaal.” - Doc Craven.

A highly mobile ho**er, Kruger competed for the Springboks during the 1920s, attaining eight caps. His Springboks career consisted of two Test matches on a 1921 tour of New Zealand, four home Tests against the British Lions in 1924, then two appearances when the All Blacks visited South Africa in 1928. He also served as captain of Transvaal (these days known as the Lions).

Kruger was the father-in-law of another Old Boys and Springboks legend, Ryk van Schoor.
