This exciting competition introduces learners to computational thinking through fun, logic-based challenges that build problem-solving skills, creativity, and analytical thinking — all without requiring prior programming experience.

Whether your learners are future software developers, engineers, scientists, or entrepreneurs — this is where their journey can begin.

The Computer Olympiad will run as usual in 2026!

The organisation that previously managed the South African Computer Olympiad had to close due to financial constraints. The programme has since been acquired¹ to ensure it continues without interruption.

The Olympiads will proceed as normal in 2026 — and we hope to improve them even further going forward.

The 2023 IOI Team left for Hungary on Sunday 27 August. They will be competing against the best coders from all around the world in Hungary this week. The South African Team are bright young talented coders from South African schools. We are proud of the team members who have earned their place in the top against thousands of learners from across the country who participated in the Programming Olympiad last year. We know they will return with proud smiles on their faces! All the best to the 2023 SA IOI Team!

When teachers let their learners participate in the South African Computer Olympiads, they are playing an important role by exposing South African learners to digital learning.
