Esikhumbuzweni Secondary School
Meet Mzwandile, a 27-year-old teacher from Nqutu who is now helping rural learners see what might be possible for their own futures.
Growing up, Mzwandile knew the challenges many of his students face today: limited resources, little career guidance and fewer opportunities to access academic support. He went on to complete a BSc in Genetics and Microbiology, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and now teaches Life Sciences and English at Esikhumbuzweni Secondary School.
KHULA became part of his journey when he attended one of our awareness programmes, which helped him secure a Yes4Youth Learnership with DHL. He credits that experience with building his confidence and giving him valuable exposure to the workplace before his career took him back into education.
Today, that investment is finding its way back into the community. Mzwandile is standing at the front of a rural classroom, teaching the next generation and encouraging young people to consider careers they may once have thought were beyond their reach.
“I want rural learners to know that their dreams are valid and achievable, no matter where they come from.”
This is why we believe so strongly in supporting young people beyond school because an opportunity given to one person travels much further than you could ever predict.
