✨MCC Alumni Spotlight -Lungiswa Ngcobo✨

From Mehlokazulu Secondary School to pursuing postgraduate studies in Microbiology, and now back at Midlands Community College helping young people discover the possibilities of STEM, Lungiswa Ngcobo’s journey is one we are proud to celebrate. 🔬✨

Lungiswa came to Midlands Community College to upgrade her studies before going on to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she studied Microbiology and Biochemistry. She is currently studying for an Honours degree in Microbiology at UNISA, continuing to build on her passion for science.

In 2022, Lungiswa returned to MCC, this time not as a student, but as a Mobile Lab Technician Intern. In 2026, she became the Head Technician of our STEP-UP MST Mobile Science Lab. Today, she plays an important role in taking STEM learning to schools and helping inspire the next generation of young scientists.

Her ambition goes far beyond her own achievements. Lungiswa would love to see more women in STEM making waves, furthering their studies and making discoveries that change the world, even going on to win Nobel Prizes. 🧪🏆

And we hope she will be one of them.

Her journey reminds us that education is not simply about where you go next. Sometimes, it is also about coming back and helping others follow the path you have travelled.

We are proud that Lungiswa’s journey has brought her full circle, from MCC student, to university graduate, to postgraduate scholar, and now to an MCC team member helping shape the future of STEM education.

Keep going, Lungiswa. We can't wait to see the waves you make.💙
