Ikeys foster friendship, encourage the fun aspect of the game and we play Running Rugby! The UCT u20 Trojans play in two competitions each year namely the Varsity Cup Young Guns competition running from early February to late March as well as the Super League A club competition that runs from April to August. The Varsity Cup is for Bona Fide students only and comprises pool games into a possible s
emi final and final which is televised nationally. Games are played both at home as well as all over South Africa on a Monday. Because of the competitiveness of the Varsity Cup Young Guns competition we have devised the u19 HPC programme where Bona Fide u19 players are conditioned and up skilled so that they are as ready as possible for the following years Varsity Cup. The players receive all the help they require to compete physically as well as that they receive academic guidance to ensure the students can manage their sporting and academic responsibilities. The W.P Super league is open for all players not just students and is made up of 3 Teams. Trojans, Babrows and Tigers. The Trojans play in the super league A while the Babrows and Tigers play in the B league. The league begins in April and runs through to August. The team with the most log points at the end of the season is deemed the winner of the league. There is a great spirit between these three teams and many healthy friendships are developed amoungst the players up on the "Green Mile". Practice days are on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for the Trojans while the Babrows and Tigers practice on a Tuesday and Thursday with matches being played mainly on a Saturday. All teams adhere to the spirit of the Ikeys as UCT Rugby Club is affectionately known, where fun, friendships and running rugby is displayed in each and every game on the Green Mile.
