At Bright Start Academy, we believe in giving back to the community and creating opportunities for the people around us. ❤️

We’re excited to open up some of our vacant land FREE OF CHARGE to members of our community who would like to set up a stall and sell their fresh produce, homemade goods, crafts, food and more — in a local farmers market fashion!🥕🍅🧺

There is NO charge for stalls! 🙌 Anyone is welcome to join us, whether you're a local farmer, small business, home seller, crafter or simply have something you'd like to share with the community.

Our goal is to support local people, encourage small businesses, bring the community together and make it easier for everyone to shop locally. This is our small way of giving back and creating a space where our community can grow together. 🤝❤️

We plan to make this a monthly month-end market, giving everyone something to look forward to and creating a regular platform to support our locals and celebrate our community.

🌍 Celebrating Our Heritage at Bright Start Academy 🇿🇦

Today, Bright Start Academy proudly hosted our Heritage Day celebration, and our little learners certainly did not disappoint! From the youngest to the oldest, our children embraced the day with excitement and proudly dressed in beautiful cultural clothing, celebrating the diverse heritage that makes South Africa so special.

It was truly heartwarming to see children so young already being introduced to the importance of culture, identity and tradition. Through their colourful outfits, the children had the opportunity to learn that every culture has its own unique clothing, customs, language, traditions and stories that deserve to be respected and celebrated.

Heritage Day provides valuable learning opportunities for young children. It helps them develop a sense of identity and belonging, encourages respect for people who may have different traditions from their own, and teaches them that diversity is something to appreciate rather than fear. It also creates opportunities for children to build confidence as they proudly share and celebrate where they come from.

Our little ones looked absolutely beautiful and carried their cultural clothing with such pride, confidence and joy. Seeing them participate at such a young age reminds us that teaching children about heritage starts from the earliest years.

At Bright Start Academy, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Today was not only about dressing up—it was about learning, celebrating, respecting and appreciating the beautiful cultures that form the heart of our Rainbow Nation. 🇿🇦❤️

🐄🐑 A Wonderful ECD Excursion to Oppi Berg Animal Farm! 🐐🐓

Our little explorers from Bright Start Academy’s ECD classes, aged 1 to 4 years, recently enjoyed a wonderful educational excursion to Oppi Berg Animal Farm! 🌿🐾

For many of our little ones, this was an exciting opportunity to see animals up close and in real life—animals they may have previously only seen in colouring books, storybooks, classroom pictures or videos. From seeing different farm animals to observing their movements, sounds and appearance, our children were able to connect what they have learned in the classroom with the real world around them.

🌱 Learning Beyond the Classroom

Experiences like these are extremely valuable during the early childhood years. Children learn through seeing, touching, listening, exploring and experiencing. Being around animals encourages curiosity and gives our little learners the opportunity to ask questions, observe their surroundings and develop an understanding of the world they live in.

The excursion also helped develop:

- 🧠 Cognitive development through observation and learning about different animals.
- 👀 Visual recognition by identifying animals they have seen in pictures.
- 🗣️ Language development as they learned and used new animal names and sounds.
- 💕 Emotional development by encouraging gentleness, care and respect towards living creatures.
- 🤸 Physical development through walking, exploring and interacting with their surroundings.
- 🌟 Confidence and independence as they experienced a new environment outside the classroom.

Most importantly, it was a day filled with wonder, excitement, laughter and discovery! Our little learners had the chance to turn pictures from their books into real-life experiences and create special memories along the way.

At Bright Start Academy, we believe that learning doesn't only happen inside a classroom—it happens when children are given the opportunity to explore the world around them. 🌈🐾

🌈 Learning Through Play in Our 1–2 Year Old Class! 🧸

Our little learners enjoyed a fun colour-matching activity where the teacher placed a cup over a specific coloured block, and each child was encouraged to observe carefully and place their cup over the same colour.

Although this activity looks simple, it supports several important areas of early childhood development. 🧠✨ It encourages colour recognition, visual perception, concentration and memory, while helping children learn to follow simple instructions and make connections between what they see and what they do.

The activity also promotes hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as children carefully reach, grasp and position the cup over the correct block. Most importantly, learning through play gives our little ones the opportunity to explore, make choices and build confidence while developing essential skills at their own pace. 💛🌟

🌟 Grade R Career Dreams Project 🌟

Our Grade R learners took part in a special “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” project. Each learner created a poster representing the career they dream of having one day. Along with their posters, the learners also prepared an oral presentation, giving them an opportunity to speak about their chosen career and explain why they would like to pursue it. 🎓👩‍⚕️👨‍🚒👩‍🏫👨‍🍳

This activity supports learning in many meaningful ways. It encourages creativity, imagination and self-expression, while helping learners develop their vocabulary, communication and early presentation skills. Preparing and speaking about their chosen careers also builds confidence and self-esteem, teaching children to express their ideas clearly and listen respectfully to others.

Most importantly, activities like these encourage children to dream, set goals and think about their future from an early age. As they grow, having the confidence to communicate their ideas, explore their interests and believe in their abilities can help them make informed choices about their education and future careers.

🌈 Learning Through Play in Our 3-Year-Old Class! 🧸✨

Our 3-year-olds enjoyed a range of fun, hands-on activities designed to support their development while keeping learning exciting!

⭕ Hula Hoop Team Activity:
The children sat in two rows and worked together to pass a hula hoop down the line to the person at the back. This activity encourages teamwork, cooperation, turn-taking and communication, while also developing body coordination, spatial awareness and gross motor skills. It teaches our little learners how to work together towards a common goal while having fun!

🎨 Colour Matching Activity:
The children were given containers in three different colours and had to match the correct coloured bottle tops to each container. This simple but valuable activity helps develop colour recognition, concentration, visual discrimination and cognitive thinking. It also strengthens fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as the children pick up, handle and place the bottle tops.

At Bright Start Academy, we believe that children learn best when they are actively involved and having fun! Every game, movement and hands-on activity is an opportunity to build important skills and confidence for their future learning. 🌟📚💛

Making numbers and letters with playdough is crucial for 5-year-olds as it helps them develop fine motor skills, which are essential for tasks like writing and cutting.

By squeezing, rolling, and shaping playdough, children strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, preparing them for future academic tasks.

This hands-on activity also enhances hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness, which are critical for writing and drawing.

Additionally, playdough encourages sensory exploration, stimulating multiple senses and making learning more engaging.

Through playdough, children can also practice counting, sorting, and classifying, which are foundational skills for numeracy.

Overall, playdough is a powerful tool for early childhood development, laying the groundwork for future learning and academic success.
