The first evidence of a solid bar of soap is from 2300 BC and was made by the Babylonians. Before soap was invented, people used water and occasionally would use sand and mud to exfoliate.
The BBC reported in 2014 that the most expensive bar of soap is made in Tripoli, Lebanon and it costs $2800 (just over R40k). The reason for this is that the soap is infused with gold powder and diamonds.
