I recently attended a sacred B**M party (all Black and beautiful) in Johannesburg. The night generated within me an all-encompassing energy that only these erotic spaces can conjure. It was quite yummy. Since then, I’ve been exploring how to channel my erotic energy into my daily, non-sexual life, as writer and feminist Audre Lorde so powerfully describes. It’s been fun, liberating, and deeply healing.

What if we all learned to call forth, feel, and move erotic energy toward our collective liberation? How might that transform our futures?

Mothers are formidable, their womb magic potent. They are the first to cultivate our superpowers. As an Auntie, I believe my role is to support mothers and the beautiful children they are raising. Unfortunately, our world is plagued with ideas that separate us from our mother's magic—time to decolonize.

Black women have been a continuous blessing in my life. They’ve brought me endless joy, helped me face my fears, and taught me how to turn my dreams into reality. So why is the world so hard on Black women, why does society rely on Black women without honoring them? What if we centered and valued their womb and prioritized womb health? What if there were no fibroids or a need for hysterectomies? What if governments created policies that protected Black women so that they could freely spread their magic? What if? Let’s imagine a world together that uplifts, supports, and loves Black mothers.

A beautiful woman has left this earthly plane. Today, my Aunt Alvis passed away. You probably remember her from previous posts: 105 years old, never been married, never had children, and loved her wine and vodka. Aunt Alvis was my favorite person to drink with. As you can imagine, the stories were fascinating. She left Detroit in her late twenties for NYC, becoming the first Black woman bookkeeper in the Diamond District. Aunt Alvis was one of the funniest, chicest people I know. She was my anchor, especially when my parents passed. This grief is heavy. I will miss her.

I'm dedicating my next world-build to her, even though it was already inspired by my aunt's remarkable ability to age gracefully. I, too, have no kids and am single. Caring for my aunt was like caring for my future self. When I would leave her, always tipsy, I couldn't help but wonder what the future would be like when I became an elder moving into ancesterhood. What support will I have? Will I be left alone with a finely tuned AI-infused robot? How will I prepare for my transition? What will be available to me as my mind and body age? How will I stay connected to my friends and family? Ultimately, what does the future of elder care look like?

Join me on June 1st as we explore a world where we honor, center, and love our elders and intentionally capture their wisdom for future generations.

I've always been a fan of afrofuture thought in practice. I believe the best way to learn about Afrofuturism is to experience it. My work has focused on making this a reality by developing ways to dive into the afrofuture. Over twenty years, I've led book clubs, curated exhibitions and film series, led workshops, taught classes, lectured on the history of Afrofuturism, facilitated panels and world-builds, hosted podcasts, and produced dance parties, all with the intention of making Afrofuturism and its philosophy more accessible.

I'm thrilled to announce the culmination of my afrofuture experiences in a single space. Today, I'm delighted to unveil The Afrofuture Strategies Institute's membership, a sanctuary where my decades of accumulated knowledge and inspiration will be shared exclusively with members. In May, we're launching a self-guided online course and personalized coaching sessions with me. We've also established the monthly Afronaut Explorers Club, a unique opportunity to delve into afrofuture wisdom in the form of film, writing, art, and music. Our inaugural discussion will focus on Dr. Bayo Akomolafe's two-part essay, "Black Lives Matter, But to whom? Why We Need a Politics of Exile in a Time of Troubling Stuckness"

And the adventure doesn't stop there. Our upcoming Afrofuture World-Build: A Romantic Government is still open for registration. However, starting in June, we'll be offering these thrilling world-builds exclusively to our members. For the June world-build, we'll be envisioning the future of elder care. Get ready for a futuristic journey focused on reverence and compassion.
