There are plenty of benefits to playing instruments. In my journey, there have been a few. I won’t go into the science. There is plenty of science behind it. Many studies and research papers. I will relate my experiences of being able to play guitar. Especially in the field of performance and teaching.

Teaching and relating as a student in guitar lessons. Promotes interpersonal skills. The ability to communicate at a higher level. Read subtle signs. Body language. Pick up on ques. It’s means of communicating through sound.

It benefits our emotional quotient. The ability to understand emotions. Relate to other peoples emotions. Build a sense of understanding people in the world. Playing an instrument is like having a second vision. Having a sense of timing. A means to create a special moment in our interactions.

Having a sense of direction is rare. Music allows us to craft our own direction. It’s a means of understanding our lives. It connects many areas in the mind. It creates a sense of unity in our thinking. Most importantly, it touches the heart and soul. It’s means of building something meaningful inside us.

Hi! Friendly greetings for 2026!

It’s been an amazing journey so far with everyone. I am truly grateful for each and every student. Those that are current, and those who have perhaps left school and are living life! I have endeavoured to instill patience, skill and confidence in every student. I can see the growth each student has achieved.

With that said… In my personal time out in December. I have spent time doing art. Writing. Meeting amazing people. Working on new music… The purpose of music is different for every person. Though beautiful playing is the outcome I’m sure most would aspire to. Whether it’s rock, metal, classical or gospel. We all aspire to play better and with more skill and emotion.

The first aspect I find that helps me to play more beautifully… Is to slow down. It’s harder to play slow than to play fast. Finding meaning in each note. Feeling every aspect of your playing. Surprisingly I find what helps me learn more — is to have a beginners mind. That there is always something new to discover in the instrument. Slow equals fast. Steady increments in speed as understanding develops.

Timing, control and poise play a huge role to. Discipline and fortitude to push through the plateau’s require a sense of appreciation :-). Playing beautifully in it’s expression is different for everyone. Though the principles are the same. Technical excellence. Feeling. Expression. Curiosity. All of these help us develop into better guitar players. As well as people.

I hope to inspire you to reach new heights this year. I’m really looking forward to improving your guitar outcomes!

On guitar, unlike piano that starts with middle C. Guitar starts with standard E.

The E-Major Arpeggio
An arpeggio is 3 note values in the major scale in this case: that repeat across the fretboard
1) Tonic
2) Mediant
3) Dominant

The practice of guitar has taught me to be a better listener. A practice that I apply to life. I listen to the sound of the world. The tone at which people speak. My inner voice. It’s taught me that we have two ears and one mouth. The quantity of guitar practice is important. It is true that the more practice you put in, the better you get. The motivations are really important. Why you practice. How you practice matter… Getting quality feedback is also very important. Iterations on practice also matter. By adapting and changing, practice gets better.

Surprisingly silence is also a very powerful medium. We live in a world full of noise. The world is constantly routing for attention. Digitally there are things coming at us 24–7. Curating good practice means, putting things aside — focusing on the instrument. Focusing on your temperament. Aiming to play and create something meaningful. It’s a discipline. It’s an act of self-care. It’s a means of expressing yourself. Finding mastery means cultivating deep practice. Deep practice is intentional practice. It’s focused practice. The rest periods are as important as the practice periods. Staying inspired and relaxed is a powerful means to keep the motivations up.
