There is no point trying to direct a child if they are in the height of emotions. Once you have connected then you can direct

Connect then direct!

Remember high emotional activity + stress block activity of the prefrontal cortex - where all the learning, reasoning, conscious choice happen.

When we connect FIRST with our child's emotion - the experience driving the behavior - it help their amygdala (the brain system associated with stress and big feelings) chill out.

Connecting first to the emotion shifts their brain and mind to be in a way better position to actually LEARN from the experience. Remember: Your goal is to teach them how to deal with a situation better next time, so calming the chaos and activating their prefrontal cortex is key!

The other day when it was all about speeches and awards... Don't forget the future grade R that almost stole Mr Gumede and Mr Mvakwendlu's MC jobs! The day brought so many tears and aroused great memories we shared with learners, it reminded us of how much work went into this day! As the school, we appreciate all efforts that accumulated to this day! We have inculcated learners of a fair standard through hard times with the help of dedicated parents. We hope the working relationship we've forged will not perish but grow from strength to strength!
