WESSA Bush Pigs

WESSA Bush Pigs WESSA Bush Pigs is situated in the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province.

Nestled on 260ha close to the foothills of the Waterberg in Limpopo, Bush Pigs Environmental Education Centre has been operating since 1987 and became WESSA’s fourth environmental education centre in 2009 linking together with three Kwa-Zulu Natal based WESSA centres. Bush Pigs hosts approximately 3,200 learners annually from schools in Gauteng, Limpopo and from Botswana. The Centre is one of Limp

opo’s premier education centres providing top quality environmental awareness, leadership development and outdoor adventure programmes and houses the first Sustainability Commons in the area. Bush Pigs is comprised of four unique camps set in different environments on two privately owned farms and offers a range of challenging activities for learners. The two farms offer a diversity of habitats including grasslands, rocky ridges plunging into a ravine, bushveld savannah and a perennial stream with the adjacent wetland. A variety of animal species including antelope, zebra, giraffe and rhino are found in the area.

We can trace WESSA’s roots back to 1883, but officially the organisation was formed on the 11th March 1926 as The Wildlife Protection Society of South Africa. At the time, a group of passionate individuals got together to campaign for the creation of a National Parks Board (now known as SANParks), to ensure the proclamation of the Kruger National Park, and to advocate the formation of other national parks in South Africa. WESSA continues this legacy of caring for the earth through our many diverse projects and partnerships around South Africa. In spite of the significant challenges facing our environment today, we celebrate the future of WESSA by acknowledging our members and stakeholders who work selflessly on behalf of the environment. Happy Birthday WESSA!!

Please donate to WESSA to support us in continuing the work we do to protect our environment.

The journey of discovering new things involves a lot of teaching and learning. WESSA Bush Pigs has historically always placed an emphasis on fun and active learning, adventure and personal growth. At the heart of what we do is a commitment to the environment demonstrated through our themed programs. We believe that learning should be highly relevant and engaging.
Our happy campers had an opportunity to go through 3 camps and also experience our fun and challenging mudstacle course. We look forward to more activities in the morning.

Snorters, Squealers and Grunters getting introduced to the Independent Republic of Bush Pigs by his majesty, the legendary Chief Chocolate and Lindo.
We are so thrilled host these beautiful souls. This week our theme is endangered species. Theme endangered species links very well with climate crisis and its impact on wildlife and natural environment that sustains life on earth. Leaners will be rotating across 3 different camps for the next 4 nights learning about waste management, pollution, medicinal plants, water conservation, biodiversity and ecosystems, and how to cook an environmentally friendly meal with less impact on climate via our special activity called the Environmental Restuarant commonly known as ER.

Follow us as we educate and inspire these future leaders.

We have new members in our family!! 🐍🐍 our longest living species of snake just added about 100 baby African Rock Pythons. A rare sight to see all siblings basking together outside the burrow this morning from our hike. We are protecting our special species. African Rock Python is listed on Appendix 2 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
