🏊‍♂️ Swimming & Lifeguard Training at Long Street Baths 🏊‍♀️

We spent some time at Long Street Baths for extra swimming practice as part of my son’s lifeguard training. 🌊

What a lovely experience! The pool was clean, well maintained and pleasantly quiet, making it a great place to focus on swimming and training. The staff were friendly and helpful, with lifeguards on duty throughout our visit.

It’s wonderful to have a public indoor swimming facility like this in Cape Town where children can practise their swimming skills in a safe and comfortable environment.

Definitely a place we’ll be visiting again! 🏊‍♂️💙

FREE PHYSICS PILOT — HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES WANTED
Curved Horizons is a science-fiction novel with a complete physics course woven through it — reference frames, gravity, relativity, orbital mechanics and black holes. Every student reads the same chapter; what changes is how far the physics is taken, from a level needing no algebra through to a calculus-based one, so mixed-age households run one chapter — two levels, not two courses.

The author is looking for homeschool families to run the first seven chapters this fall — around a chapter a week from the week of 26 October, free — in exchange for honest feedback and a short assessment before and after. Places are limited. No physics background is needed to teach it.

SCIENCE AFTER DARK is coming this October… 🌙
As the days grow shorter, we’re following science into the shadows.

Every Monday in October, a new FREE Creature Curriculum science investigation will be inspired by one of nature’s most fascinating creatures:

🕸️ Build and test an orb-weaver’s web
🦇 Explore echoes with bats
🐦‍⬛ Investigate problem-solving with ravens
🦉 Discover the science behind silent owl flight

And I’ll bring back a favourite wolf investigation as a special bonus. 🐺

Each lesson is designed for ages 6–12 and naturally adaptable. Using simple household or classroom materials, each investigation brings meaningful science to life in about 30 minutes.

🐊 Our Reptile Outing is almost here! 🐍

Crocodiles are sometimes described as animals that don't die from old age—but the reality is even stranger. 🐊😳

Unlike humans, crocodiles show negligible senescence, meaning they don't experience the same dramatic physical decline as they age. They also continue growing throughout their lives.

However, they aren't immortal. Eventually, starvation, disease, injuries, territorial fights, accidents, or humans can kill them.

🎃 A crocodile may keep growing and remain powerful for decades—but even these ancient reptiles can't escape death forever. 🐊💀😳
