Beaulieu College matriculant sticks to her dream and earns SA U18 hockey colours | Midrand Reporter Once overlooked for top provincial teams, Beaulieu College matric learner Addison van der Byl refused to let disappointment define her as she gets call-ups to two South African hockey squads, with Kenya and a Youth World Championship dream firmly in her sights.

Today, the Beaulieu Preparatory School community pauses to remember and honour the life of one of our founding members, Athol Franz.

As we reflect on his passing, we are reminded that the school we know and love today stands on the vision, dedication and commitment of those who helped establish its foundations over 30 years ago. Their passion for education and unwavering belief in nurturing young minds have left a lasting legacy that continues to shape generations of pupils.

We are deeply grateful for the contribution they made to our school and the values they helped instil within our community. Their influence will continue to be felt in the classrooms, on our fields, and in the hearts of all who have been part of the Beaulieu family.

Our sincere condolences go to Athol's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May he rest in peace 🤍

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Athol Franz passed away at 08:19 this morning.

Athol was first and foremost a photographer and a creative whose passion for aviation took him to aviation events around the world. Through his lens, he captured not only aircraft, but also the drama, movement and spectacle of airshows and the people who brought them to life.

That passion became the foundation of African Pilot magazine, which he established and built around his deep appreciation for aircraft and the visual theatre of aviation. His photography and publishing work made a significant contribution to South African aviation and helped share its stories with a wider audience.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Christine, who shared the sad news and is understandably broken with grief. We hope she finds some comfort in knowing that so many within the aviation community are thinking of her and remembering Athol with respect and affection.

May he now find peace and release from the suffering he endured.

This Mandela Day, Kyalami Preparatory School is once again preparing its much-loved Jars of Hope initiative, and we'd love your support!

Last year, our incredible school community helped us create 𝟒𝟔𝟖 Jars of Hope for those in need. This year, we're aiming even higher – but we can't do it without you!

We're collecting 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐣𝐚𝐫𝐬 (such as Nescafé Gold, Nescafé Classic, Jacobs Kronung) to be transformed into Jars of Hope.
