On 23 April 2026, we celebrated International Girls in ICT Day at the I-CAN Centre in Elsies River under the global theme ““𝘈𝘐 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵: 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.”

In collaboration with Go Fourth International, Cisco Networking Academy SA (A Skills Development Program by Cisco), Genesis CITI / I-CAN Centre, and Leelyn Management, we welcomed young women from Elsies River High School and recent matriculants to explore pathways into AI, Cybersecurity, and Networking, while building confidence through real-world industry engagement.
The programme was opened with a keynote address by Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth in the City of Cape Town.

We were honoured to be part of such an event with partners from both government and public, all united in empowering young women to meaningfully participate in the digital economy.

Over the next 12 months, the 6 employed learners will build a strong foundation in both technical and professional skills - from Microsoft Excel and Outlook to AI Essentials and Prompting, alongside digital safety and design.

The programme also develops essential workplace capabilities such as communication, time management, prioritisation, and productivity - ensuring they are well prepared for real-world demands.
