I wanted to share my most recent activity page with you.

Throwing and catching a ball addresses a child's eye-hand coordination, balance, trunk strength, and shoulder stability. Also, ball games work on the executive functions of planning, sequencing, and inhibition (or waiting).

Feel welcome to share this resource with other teachers, therapists, and families and to post on any educational resource websites that your school may have put into place.

Today you can focus on the olfactory system. The olfactory system is connected to the limbic brain which controls memory and emotion .

It is easy to do, make a few smell bottles or let the kids smell different spices, food while preparing meals.

Your child might be a picky eater, it is nessecary to expose them to different smells, some kids might be unresponsive to strong smells or overreactive to smells.

Today we will focus on fine motor skills. Fine motor skill activities involve manual dexterity ans often require coordinating movements of the hands fingers with the eyes; this is called hand-eye coordination. Components of fine motor skills include being able to grip and manipulate objects, use of both hands for a task, use just the thumb and one finger to pick something up rather than the whole hand.

Please note fine motor skills doesn't just happen. It needs to be practised every day.

You can take newspaper or any kind of paper and let the child tear the paper. The child can then use the pieces and paste in into a picture to create an art work.

Also if you child needs practise in cutting, then
You can start of by let them cutting playdoug.

I also added some pictures for hand strengthing exercises.

Today we will focus on vestibular and proprioceptive development.

The proprioceptive system
provides information to the brain about your body's position in relation to the environment, also tells the amount of effort being used to move your body, and regulates both emotional responses and sensory input.

The vestibular system provides information through the inner ear that tells us about our head position and how we are moving. Your understanding of movement and balance helps you coordinate the movement of your head with your eyes, enables you to use both sides of the body at the same time, tells which direction you're going and how fast and enables you to remain upright.
It is fun and it can be done outside or inside the house.

If you have chalk, you can draw hop scotch with different elements, like jumping, crawling, walking like a bear, spinning on your driveway(if paved) or in the garage

Otherwise you can use masking tape for inside the house.

If you do not have chalk, you can make your own chalk paint.
For each batch, you’ll need:

1/3 cup baking soda

1/3 cup cornstarch

3/4-1 cup water

food coloring(for bright vivid colors, use food color gel

paint brushes or squeeze bottles

How to Make Sidewalk Chalk Paint:

Start with 3/4 to 1 cup of water in a bowl or measuring cup. If you’re using the squeeze bottles I recommend 1 cup of water, if you’re using paint brushes, it can be a little thicker so use 3/4 cup water.
Pour 1/3 cup corn starch into the water.
Stir it up with a spoon or whisk, breaking up any clumps.Next, add 1/3 cup baking soda.
Stir it up, again breaking apart any clumps.
Pour into your squeeze bottle. (You can skip this step if you’re using paint brushes; instead pour it into a small container)Squeeze a few drops of food color into the mixture.
Shake/mix well.

I have added pictures of what the different hop scotch might look like and you can change it to how you like. This will also help with gross motor skill development.

I will share some ideas what you can do with the kids during lockdown.

Firstly it is important to note that any child's development is based on the pictures below.

For your child to be able to do academics all the lower levels must be in place. And if your child struggles academically, it might be that one of these levels were not properly developed.

For today we will focus on sensory play.
Easy one to do is- if you have a garden, make a mud puddle, give different toys.

Baby's can play in there diapers and bigger kids kan play in there costumes. For little ones exporsure to the sensory feeling of mud and water is important, while older kids can incorporate pretend play, they might need still help with this part.

Some kids will be resisitant, don't like getting dirty. These kids you will start maybe with the hands and feet, you will need to continue to give them exposure to the different sensations until they tolerate it, remember it is a important part of development.
