Women in STEM: Women’s Day Celebration
On Thursday, 13 August 2026, TechnoAfrika, in partnership with Ntombizimele, hosted a meaningful and inspiring Women in STEM Women’s Day Celebration at the TechnoAfrika Discovery Centre in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
The event was held in commemoration of Women’s Day and National Science Month, bringing together women from diverse STEM, professional, cultural and community backgrounds to celebrate, connect and reflect on how we can create stronger pathways for the next generation.
The gathering created space for science engagement, mentorship, networking and powerful conversations around the role of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
We were honoured to host an inspiring panel of women contributing to STEM, education, technology and engineering:
✔Prof. Patricia Gouws
Academic in Computing, Robotics and STEM Education at UNISA, FIRST South Africa LEGO League, with expertise in computing, programming, robotics and community engagement.
✔Nomusa Keninda
e-Learning Specialist and Founder of the Mpumalanga ICT Club, advocating for digital skills, coding, robotics and mentorship opportunities for young girls in STEM.
✔Zanele Mpanza
Industrial Engineer and Lecturer at UNISA, with interests in engineering, mathematical modelling, simulation, operational research, systems engineering and AI.
A special thank you to Ntombizimele, who played a leading role in hosting this event, and to its founder Maureen Nyaka, whose vision helped shape the gathering into more than a celebration. It became a platform for building a community of women committed to opening doors and creating opportunities.
As Maureen reflected:
“We have started building a community of powerful women who are willing to open doors, share their knowledge and help create opportunities for the next generation.”
Thank you to our speakers, partners, collaborators and every woman who joined us.
Together, we are building a future where more young people can see themselves in STEM.

Day 1: Celebrating National Science Month at Penreach!

Yesterday, Team TechnoAfrika had the honour of exhibiting at the Penreach Shalamuka STEAM Centre in Mbombela as part of the STEAM Festival, held in celebration of National Science Month.

What an incredible day it was!

Nearly 3,000 learners. 39 schools. One STEAM Centre filled with curiosity, excitement, innovation, and discovery.

We are truly grateful to be part of this inspiring platform, where learners get to engage with science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics in meaningful and exciting ways. Opportunities like these allow us to reach more young minds, spark curiosity, and inspire the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders.

Every interaction reminds us why STEM education matters and brings us one step closer to making STEM accessible, exciting, and impactful for all learners.

A heartfelt thank you to Penreach and the Mpumalanga Department of Education for this wonderful opportunity and for championing science education in our province.

Celebrating National Science Month through Digital Empowerment

As we celebrate National Science Month, TechnoAfrika is proud to have partnered with Ntombizimele, a women empowerment organisation, to provide Digital Literacy Skills to young girls in our community this week.

We believe that equipping young women with 21st-century skills, technology, and innovation is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate and commemorate National Science Month.

Through this programme, we are helping to inspire confidence, curiosity, and future-ready skills among young girls — empowering them to participate fully in the digital world.

A heartfelt thank you to our partner, Ntombizimele, for this valuable opportunity and for joining us in empowering the next generation of women in STEM and technology.

Our Mpumalanga Team, the Crash Rovers, completed the final part of their competition with pride and excellence.

The team had a wonderful opportunity to present their Innovation Project and explain their Robot Design before a panel of judges. This was a proud moment for our young innovators as they confidently shared their ideas, creativity, and technical skills on an international platform.

After the judging session, the Crash Rovers joined an Alliance Team for the Alliance Robotics Challenge, where they partnered with an Australian team, Chicks Before Bricks. What a beautiful experience of teamwork, collaboration, and international friendship!

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to FIRST LEGO League for creating such a life-changing opportunity for our learners. This experience has opened their minds, expanded their confidence, and given them memories that will last a lifetime.

A special moment of honour was when the team also had the opportunity to meet Councillor Keanu Arya, who came for a meet and greet. What a privilege and encouragement for our team!
