👨🏽🎓English Language Competition 2026👨🏽🎓
On the 19th and 20th of May the annual English Language Competition for the Sedibeng East Region was hosted by Hoërskool Drie Riviere.
Meyerton High excelled in the competition that affords learners the opportunity to compete against their peers from other schools in Prepared and Unprepared public speaking, Scrabble, Debating and Literary Quiz.
On the 19th our Grade 8 and 9 Juniors participated. The junior team consisted of two prepared public speakers, Simnikiwe Sigo and Unathi Sanoke. One unprepared speaker, Kirsty Chiwakwa, and two adjudicators Neo Ramafikeng and Jaden Lebope.
The junior team also included four scrabble players; Mpho Nhlapo, Nina Mabuto, Oluhle Mbonane and Lufuna Nhlapo. The last part of the team was made up of the debaters; Bahle Mngomezulu, Hanaah Phiri and Renee Mafogo
Our junior team made us very proud, with Kirsty Chiwakwa winning 2nd place for Unprepared Speaking and Simnikiwe Sigo winning 3rd place for Prepared Speaking. The Scrabble team also won “Best Word” of the competition, thanks to the efforts of Nina Mabuto.
We know that in the coming years these juniors will build on the experience they have gained and train our upcoming champions.
On the 20th it was the turn of our Senior team to shine. The team consisted of prepared speakers, Keitumetse Mogokotleng, Samuel Kuwarega and unprepared speaker, Relebohile Kibiti. Our two senior adjudicators were Motlalepula Mokoena and Selvin Mlambo.
The debate team included Paballo Theletsane, Natelli Nianji and Nthati Mokoena. The Scrabble Team was comprised of Cherish Duru, Amelio Russell, Precious Motuke and Nandipha Mabuto.
Lastly, we brought in the big guns in the Literary Quiz; Dintle Selebalo, Tsheetsano Mazwe, Divine Duru and Sinayo Kondile who won 1st place overall in the literary Quiz. We are so proud of them!
Congratulations also go out to Precious Motuke who won 2nd place overall in the Scrabble competition.
Meyerton High learners distinguished themselves in displaying good sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour, an accolade even more important than winning.
We know that our learners will build on the experience that they have gained and do even better next year.
Well done to the ENTIRE team! Each and every one of you made our school shine.🩵
