Robotics club in the West Coast:

"Dear fellow West Coast Home-Schoolers

Chirani and I have been chatting a lot about starting a Lego Robotics Club like the one run at the Cape Town Science Centre.
I should point out that there are already home-school clubs hosted at the centre itself on Thursday and Friday mornings, as well as weekend clubs.
These are less costly than a home-run club, but then you must still drive out the petrol and spend the extra time on the road.
For those interested in the Science Centre options, see the attachment below.

Now, for those of us with tighter schedules, who wish there was a club nearer to this side of the world, I have arranged for my home to serve as base for this region.
After speaking to ORTSA (the Science Centre robotics organisation) we are able to offer the following:

Children from Grade 1 to age 15 can participate.
The younger ones work on WeDo, while the older crowd use Mindstorm.
All the equipment is provided by the ORTSA team.
We need a minimum of 10 children. If there is insufficient interest, you will have to travel to the Science Centre to participate.

The only available slot they have is on a Wednesday morning from 11am to 1pm.
We would meet every second Wednesday. (a total of about 5 sessions per term)

The cost is R700 per CHILD per TERM.
The discount for more than two children is R25 per extra child in your family.
Payment will have to be made via EFT prior to commencement of the first lesson.

For us to proceed, I will need full commitment from those who sign up for a term.
Once you have paid your R700, you will not receive refunds if you do not attend.
They are a non-profit organisation and need to cover their basic running costs, which include manpower, equipment, petrol and time.

The home where I am hosting from is in Sunset Beach, Milnerton.

I would like to start the club this term still, but if the consensus is to wait, we can start at the beginning of the second term.
It all depends on the response and level of interest shown.
