This is the kind of news that makes us proud! Two teachers from our partner schools are heading to the 2026 National Teaching Awards, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate them.

🏆 Ms T.F. Mthimunye from Hlanguphala Primary School in Nkangala District is a finalist in Excellence in Grade R Teaching.

🏆 Mr S.N. Sibutha from Elangwane MST in Gert Sibande District is a finalist in Excellence in Teaching Physical Sciences.

One is helping our youngest learners build the foundations for their future. The other is opening up the world of science and new possibilities for learners. Different classrooms, different stages of learning, but one shared commitment to helping learners reach their potential.

Working alongside our partner schools, we see how much teachers pour into their classrooms and the difference that makes in learners’ lives. Their recognition is a proud reminder of why supporting teachers and strengthening teaching and learning matters, not only in Mpumalanga, but across South Africa.

Ms Mthimunye and Mr Sibutha, congratulations! Your schools and districts have every reason to be proud, and so do we. Wishing you both all the very best at the awards in Gauteng tomorrow (1 October).

The pots were steaming, the timers were ticking, and our partner schools came ready to cook their hearts out! 👩🏾‍🍳

Heritage Month at our Shalumuka STEAM Centre brought four partner schools together for a full-day Cook-Off, filled with teamwork, creativity and a little friendly competition.

Mayibuye Secondary School, New Whiteriver Secondary School, Portia Shabangu Secondary School and Fundijobo Secondary School went head-to-head across three quiz rounds and three tasting rounds, all hoping to impress the judges.

And the winners are…

🏆 Overall Winner: Mayibuye Secondary School

🍳 Breakfast: Portia Shabangu Secondary School

🍽️ Main Dish: Portia Shabangu Secondary School

🍰 Dessert: New Whiteriver Secondary School

Congratulations to all our partner schools for bringing their best! Well done to Mayibuye Secondary School on the overall win, Portia Shabangu Secondary School on winning both Breakfast and Main Dish, and New Whiteriver Secondary School on taking the Dessert category.

Our judging panel included Professor Rina Swart, Professor Lembe Magwaza and Dr Ali Elnaeim Elbasheir Ali, who brought their expertise from the University of Mpumalanga and the DSTI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security.

Siyabonga kakhulu to the educators who supported their learners, and to Breet Braai Slaghuis & Deli for sponsoring the meat and ingredients that made the tastings possible.

Sometimes, the biggest impact comes from making the most of what you have.

“With so little, the impact is seen.”

Gugu Zulu from Sasol shared these words during a visit to three Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Komatipoort, and they captured the heart of what the team witnessed.

Penreach’s ECD CPD team joined Sasol, our valued funder and partner, at Little Ones Educare, Ubizo Home Care and Thubelihle Creche to see how investment and support are making a difference in the spaces where young children learn and grow.

At Little Ones Educare, practitioners have transformed the resources available to them into spaces that support children’s learning, development and everyday experiences, including dedicated toilet and technology areas.

The visit was a reminder that meaningful change is not always about having more, but about making a difference with what is available.

It also highlighted the importance of investing in practitioners. Across the three centres, practitioners have successfully completed their NQF Level 4 qualification, while three are currently pursuing their NQF Level 5 Diploma and awaiting graduation. These qualifications were funded by Sasol, supporting practitioners to strengthen their knowledge, skills and confidence in creating better learning experiences for young children.

Throughout the visit, practitioners shared their progress, achievements and how their learning is shaping their daily work.

Their stories showed how investment in people can translate into meaningful changes in ECD environments, creating better experiences for the children they serve.

Because when practitioners are supported, the foundations children learn on become stronger.
