Calvary Christian School

HISTORY OF CALVARY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL NELSPRUIT, MPUMALANGA

Calvary Christian School was established and registered in May 1986. The Nationalist Government tried to stop the school from opening, as they said "We already have Christian Education", but eventually they relented and we opened in May 1986. The Department tried to intimidate us by sending Inspectors to our school every six months, but they could not find anything illegal that we were doing and eventually left us alone. The "Right Wing" Political Party did not pretend that they wanted to help us; they attacked. In the early 1990's the "Right Wing" placed a huge bomb, made of 24kg of dynamite, at the school/church premises in order to blast us out of existence because of our open racial policies. By the intervention of God, the bomb did not explode. It was removed by a bomb disposal expert who said that it was a well made device and should have gone off. The school has gone from strength to strength. In the first few years of our existence the students had to write the Transvaal Matriculation Examination, set by the previous government in order to obtain university entrance. As time passed, the present Government Education Body recognized that our students were more than adequately coping with the matriculation exam and university, and freed us from having to write this matric exam, thus giving us permission to use our curriculum up to and including Grade 12. We have students in university ever since, and they have been extremely successful.
