UPDATE ON THE NSFAS LEASE TERMINATION CRISIS
SASCO UMP Mbombela Branch brings the following update regarding NSFAS lease terminations.
Over the last two days, SASCO assisted students with the official NSFAS Lease Termination Process as communicated by the Student Housing Office. Students were also encouraged to send emails to the Vice-Chancellor & Principal, Prof Thenjiwe Meyiwa, to emphasise the urgency of this matter.
In total, over 250 students were assisted.
This initiative led to positive results as the Vice Chancellor & Principal, Prof Thenjiwe Meyiwa, responded to the studentsβ emails in less than twenty-four hours. We are pleased to see that the extended University of Mpumalanga values β Co-operation, Accountability & Ownership, and Empathy β are being put into practice. In her response, she assured students that the matter was escalated by the Acting Dean of Students, Dr. Twaise, and a special urgent meeting with NSFAS was requested.

SASCO UMP commemorates the 50th anniversary of the June 16, 1976 Soweto Uprising, honouring the courage and sacrifice of the youth who stood against oppression and fought for the right to quality education. Their legacy continues to inspire generations of young people to champion justice, equality, and transformation.
As we reflect on this historic milestone, we also pay tribute to the students who led the 2016 Fees Must Fall movement, carrying forward the struggle for accessible and affordable higher education. Their fight reminds us that the pursuit of educational freedom remains as relevant today as ever.
Amandla!

We understand the pressures that come with examinations, and through this initiative, we aim to remind students that they are not alone in this journey. Wishing all students strength, focus, and success as they continue with their exams.

It is with profound sadness that SASCO mourns the untimely passing of a fellow student.
The Branch Political Education Officer, alongside friends and students, attended the funeral service of Thabang Mokoena. The loss is deeply felt by the entire UMP student community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
May his memory live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Thabang.
