MEC Awards
KEHS celebrated notable academic achievements at the MEC Awards in East London on 18 August. Mr Gordon Harrison received recognition for KEHS being one of the best-performing schools in the 2025 NSC results, as well as for his leadership in education. Mrs Kithumetsi Dube was recognised for achieving the best Geography results in the 2025 NSC examinations. Mr Nkosi Ndlovu was recognised as the educator who prepared the 2025 National Young Historian winner, while Abulele Sontangane was awarded the National Young Historian of 2025.
High School Inter-school Athletics
We hosted the annual High School Inter-school Athletics Meeting on 20 August, with St Patrick’s, Bergview, Focused, St Monica’s, Mount Currie and Kokstad College participating. We are proud of Tamary Mandiwanzira, who was named Best U14 Girl, Tania Mandiwanzira, who was runner-up for Best U17 Girl, and Junior Mncadi, who was named Best U17 Boy as well as Senior Victor Ludorum. KEHS was crowned the overall winning school.
SP Matat Inter-school Athletics
On 21 August, our athletes competed in the SP Matat Inter-school Athletics Meeting, hosted by Focused School. The participating schools were KEHS, St Monica’s, Bergview College and Focused School. Our athletes achieved excellent results. Liphatwe Thafeni was named Best U10 Girl, while Oyisa Mbathani was Best U11 Girl. Kungawo Mafunda was Best U12 Girl, with Leah da Silva as runner-up, while Sinelizwi Gcingca was Best U13 Girl, with Anelisa Ndevu as runner-up.
In the boys’ events, Lere Ntlou was Best U10 Boy, with Cade Marais as runner-up. Cowan Canham was Best U11 Boy, with Zack Myers as runner-up. Mohale Ramabitle was Best U12 Boy, while Azoma Mkolokotho was Best U13 Boy.
Liphatwe Thafeni was named Junior Victrix Ludorum, Cowan Canham Junior Victor Ludorum, Kungawo Mafunda Senior Victrix Ludorum and Mohale Ramabitle Senior Victor Ludorum. KEHS was crowned the winning school.
SPAR Fast 5 Netball Challenge
KEHS competed in the SPAR Fast 5 Netball Challenge hosted by Kokstad College on 22 August. Our team beat BVC 10–2, MCS 11–3, KC 4–3 and SMDS 7–5, but lost to SASS 4–7, MHS 4–8 and STRS 2–9. We progressed to the semi-finals, where we lost to SASS.
Amanzimtoti 7’s Rugby Festival
Our 7’s rugby team participated in the Amanzimtoti 7’s Rugby Festival on 22 August. We beat Werda 26–14 and drew 5–5 with Kloof. Finishing second in our pool, we advanced to the semi-finals, where we lost 22–14 to Linpark. KEHS finished fourth overall out of ten teams.
Boys’ Hockey
Our U7–U13 boys travelled to SPC on 22 August. Our U7 team won 1–0, while our U9 team drew 2–2. Our U11 teams recorded a 3–1 defeat and a 1–0 victory respectively. Our U13 teams drew 4–4 with SPC A and defeated SPC B 3–1.

KZNCSSA Zonal Athletics Trials

The KZNCSSA U7–U19 Zonal Athletics Trials took place at Suid-Natal on 8 August, with 117 athletes representing KEHS. Our athletes performed exceptionally well, recording 63 first places, 61 second places and 56 third places. Twelve records were also broken by our athletes: Qiana Haddon-Davies in Girls U9 Turbo Javelin; Lere Ntlou in Boys U10 80m and 1200m; Niki Enslin in Girls U11 1200m; Cowan Canham in Boys U11 80m; Zack Myers in Boys U11 High Jump; Leah da Silva in Girls U12 Discus and Javelin; Ovayo Diko in Girls U13 100m and 200m; Alakhe Mkhathi in Boys U13 200m and Inathi Gqoli in Boys U14 1500m.

Several athletes received special recognition for their performances. Luke van Dyk finished second in the Junior Victor Ludorum (U6–U9), while Cade Marais claimed first place and Lere Ntlou third place in the U10–U13 category. Ovayo Diko was awarded the Top Female Individual Achievement, with 1st and 2nd positions for her 200m and 100m performances, respectively. An outstanding 111 KEHS athletes were selected for the South Durban team and will compete at the KZNCSSA Provincial Athletics Championships on 28–29 August.

HS Sport

KEHS chess enjoyed a highly successful afternoon against SMDS on 12 August. Team A secured a convincing 10–6 victory, while Team B produced an impressive 15–1 win, giving KEHS a dominant aggregate score of 25–7. Our Fast 5 netball team also enjoyed a convincing 30–11 victory over BVC on 13 August. At the Werda 7’s Rugby Festival on 15 August, we lost 12–21 to Werda, drew 15–15 with Curro Salt Rock and beat Scottburgh 19–17. Our 1st girls’ soccer team also competed at the KC Festival, losing 0–1 to Mount Currie before drawing 0–0 with SPC.

Boys’ Hockey

On 15 August, our U9 and U11 boys hosted Ixopo at KEHS. Our U9 first team narrowly lost 2–3, while the U9 second team fought back to secure a 3–3 draw. Our U11 teams faced tough opposition, with the first team losing 0–3 and the second team losing 0–2. Our U13 boys travelled to Ixopo and played to a hard-fought 0–0 draw.

Oral History Provincial Competition
KEHS learners delivered outstanding performances at the Oral History Provincial Competition, held in East London from 30 July to 1 August. Abulele Sontangane (Grade 11) secured first place in the Young Historian Oral Presentation and Research Paper category, while Sefika Lekena (Grade 9) won first place in Storytelling. Iviwe Moyo (Grade 10) finished second in the Young Historian Oral Presentation and Research Paper category. Abulele has held the provincial title since Grade 8 and will once again represent the Eastern Cape at the national competition in Pretoria together with Sefika. We celebrate the achievements of our learners.

Riverwood College 7’s Rugby Festival
Our rugby 7’s team competed at the Riverwood College 7’s Rugby Festival on 1 August, enjoying games against quality opposition. Our team defeated Howick B (19–0), Werda (22–0) and Riverwood B (45–0). After an opening loss to Michaelhouse A (17–5), KEHS progressed to the semi-finals, while they had to play back-to-back immediately after their final pool match. Despite the quick turnaround, the team put up a strong performance but lost 21–7 to a strong Howick A side.

KEHS Inter-house Athletics Meeting
Held on 3 and 4 August, our annual Inter-house Athletics Meeting produced an exceptional standard of competition, with 17 new records set across track, field and relay events. Record-breaking performances came from Qiana Haddon-Davies, Molemo Moerane, Cade Marais, Leah da Silva, Ovayo Diko, Clinae Strydom, Zamasukude Vellem, Onalo Zimase, Gqama Dzingwe and Tlhohonolofatso Letseka, while relay teams from Melville and Graham also etched their names into the record books.

Outstanding athletes in individual events on the ASA performance tables were Azizi Msutwana (U6), Zara Raw (U7), Luna Ntuli (U8), Qiana Haddon-Davies (U9), Cade Marais (U10), Ingawo Matolo (U11), Leah da Silva (U12), Ovayo Diko (U13), Tamary Mandiwanzira (U14), Unako May (U15), Tania Mandiwanzira (U17) and Gqama Dzingwe (U19).

The best overall basket of performances in each age group were achieved by Azizi Msutwana (U6), Lebone Ntlou (U7), Keandra Phillips (U8), Molemo Moerane (U9), Cade Marais (U10), Cowan Canham (U11), Kungawo Mafunda (U12), Ovayo Diko (U13), Emihle Luphalule (U14), Talia Aarons (U15), Junior Mncadi (U17) and Phethang Nakin (U19).

Congratulations to all the Victor and Victrix Ludorum winners: Liphathwe Thafeni (SP Junior Victrix), Cowan Canham (SP Junior Victor), Kungawo Mafunda (SP Senior Victrix), Mohale Ramabitle (SP Senior Victor), Talia Aarons (HS Junior Victrix), Akhanani K**a and Nkazimlo Nonjiji (joint HS Junior Victor), Inako Ngceyana (HS Senior Victrix) and Junior Mncadi (HS Senior Victor). Graham House was crowned the overall Inter-house Athletics champion, while Melville House received the Spirit Cup in recognition of their enthusiasm and support throughout the competition.

KEHS Golf Day
The KEHS Golf Day, held on Saturday, 25 July, was a great success, with 14 teams of 4 enjoying a wonderful day of golf. There was plenty of entertainment for the whole family, including a flea market, children's activities, delicious food and fun games of bingo.
Congratulations to Karen van Rensburg, who won the pizza oven raffle. Well done to our winning teams: Nico, Maryna, Paseka and Christiaan who finished first, followed by Gavin, Jaco, James and Polly in second place, while Grant, Leonard, Petros and Byron claimed third place. Congratulations also to Liam (Junior Longest Drive), Jane (Ladies' Longest Drive) and Gavin (Men's Longest Drive).

JP Athletics Trials

Our youngest learners had a wonderful time during the JP Athletics Trials on Friday, 24 July. They participated with great enthusiasm, gave of their best in every event and reminded us all just how precious they are.

Bergview Soccer Tournament

Our boys represented KEHS proudly at the Bergview Soccer Tournament on Saturday, 25 July. They played outstanding football throughout the day and reached the final, where they lost narrowly 1–0, to Matatiele Senior Secondary School. Well done to the team on an excellent achievement.
