On 28 July 2026, an exciting journey began between the University of Pretoria’s Honours Marketing students and entrepreneurs supported by the Mamelodi Business Hub.
What started as an academic learning experience became an opportunity for meaningful collaboration, knowledge sharing and community impact.
Our Mamelodi Business Hub entrepreneurs had the opportunity to travel from our Mamelodi Campus to the University of Pretoria’s Hatfield Campus, where they engaged with Honours Marketing students who worked alongside them to better understand their businesses and identify practical opportunities for growth.
Throughout this journey, students worked with entrepreneurs to:
🔹 Understand their businesses, challenges and target markets
🔹 Develop marketing and business objectives
🔹 Identify and design practical strategic interventions
🔹 Work collaboratively to implement their recommendations
🔹 Develop practical marketing toolkits for continued use
🔹 Introduce simple ways of measuring the impact of their efforts
The collaboration brought together entrepreneurs from diverse industries, including consulting, baking and catering, coffee, construction management, cleaning services, safety and protective clothing, female wellbeing, sustainable refill solutions and drone services, among others.

A story of courage, resilience, opportunity, challenges and dreams.
This initiative reminded us that learning is not something that only happens inside a classroom. Sometimes, the most meaningful learning happens when students, entrepreneurs and communities sit together, exchange ideas and work towards solving real-world challenges.
For our entrepreneurs, it was an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives and practical marketing support.
For our students, it was an opportunity to move beyond theory and experience marketing in practice.
And for the Mamelodi Business Hub, it was another reminder of the power of partnerships in creating opportunities for our entrepreneurs and communities. ❤️
We are incredibly grateful to the University of Pretoria Marketing Department, the Honours Marketing students and all the academics and partners who contributed to making this collaboration possible.
