Celebration of National Cancer Day – 4 February 2026

Koos Matli Primary School commemorated National Cancer Day on 4 February. The event was organised by the Safety and Health Committee, spearheaded by Mr Mhlanga and Ms Manamela, and coordinated by Ms Mogale.
Ms Mogale officially opened the programme by highlighting the importance and purpose of National Cancer Day and proceeded to introduce the guest speaker.

The event was a success, with valuable support from the Department of Health, represented by Stanza Bopape Clinic under the leadership of Sister Kgomotso. She shared important information with both learners and staff about cancer, including its causes and the different types of cancer.

Learners actively participated by presenting short speeches explaining what cancer is and raising awareness about the disease. Following the speeches, learners and some staff members took part in an awareness march along Malindi Street and back to the school, extending the message to the surrounding community.

Learners and staff dressed in various colours representing different types of cancer, making the school vibrant and colourful on the day.
The school would like to extend sincere gratitude to the parents for their contribution of R10, which helped make the event a success. Appreciation is also extended to the School Management Team (SMT) for allowing learners and staff to participate during contact time.

πŸ“šπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Heritage Day at Our School πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ“š

Today we joined the rest of South Africa in celebrating Heritage Day – a day dedicated to remembering and honoring the cultures, traditions, and histories that make us who we are.

At our school, Heritage Day is more than just an event; it is a teaching moment. Learners get the chance to:
✨ Wear their traditional attire with pride
✨ Share songs, dances, and stories from their cultures
✨ Learn about the importance of respect, unity, and diversity

By celebrating Heritage Day at school, we give our learners the opportunity to appreciate their own roots while embracing the uniqueness of others. It builds understanding, tolerance, and pride, and it strengthens the values of Ubuntu – I am because we are.

As a school community, we are proud to create an environment where culture is respected, voices are heard, and diversity is celebrated. Together, we teach our learners that our heritage is our strength.

πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ€ Happy Heritage Day from all of us at Koos Matli Primary School.

Dear Sir/Madam
SUBJECT: Request for donation of chairs to support our school

I am writing on behalf of Koos Matli Primary School to request your kind support in donating chairs for our learners. Our school is dedicated in providing quality education to 1034 learners, but we are currently facing a shortage of adequate seating in our classrooms.

The lack of proper chairs affects both the comfort and concentration of our learners, making it challenging for them to focus on their studies. With your generous support, we can certainly create a better learning environment that enables our learners to reach their full potential.

If you are willing to support our cause, we would be happy to provide any additional information or discuss how we can acknowledge your generous contribution. Please feel free to contact the principal, Mr Ngoepe, on this number: 082 553 5112 or on [email protected].

Thank you for your time and consideration. We truly appreciate any assistance you can provide in enhancing our learners' learning experience.

Sincerely,
Mr A.T. Khokonyane
An educator at Koos Matli Primary School

MARKET DAY
A Market Day for Grade 7 learners is an exciting and educational experience, teaching them valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, money management, and team work. It also allow learners to get hands-on experience in running a business, from product creation to selling and marketing. They also learn about basic concepts such as budgeting, pricing, profit, and loss. This gives them an encouragement for entrepreneurial thinking and financial literacy. It fosters creativity and innovation as learners come up with ideas for products or services to sell.

CAREER DAY
Career Day is an event where Grade 7 learners dress-up in the careers they want to see themselves occupying in the future. It helps learners explore different career paths and think about their futures. At this stage, learners have already beginning to develop interests and skills that can influence their future career choices. This introduces learners to a wide variety of careers, including, traditional roles like doctors, teachers, and engineers to modern careers like software developers, entrepreneurs, and social media managers.

It helps learners start thinking about their strengths, interests, and how those align with different career paths. It is also imperative to invite professionals from different industries (healthcare, education, technology, business, arts, sports, etc) to come and talk about their career journeys, what they do daily, and the skills required for their jobs.

PROVISION OF SANITARY PADS
Providing sanitary towels to girls especially in school setting, can have a pivotal role and impact on their well-being and educational experience. It ensures that girls have access to clean and safe menstrual products, reducing the risk of infectious and other health issues.
It also reduces absenteeism and improves school attendance, allowing them to continue their education without interruption because many girl children miss school during their periods due to a lack of access to sanitary products.
We would like to humbly applause the P. MASEMOLA FOUNDATION for providing our girls with sanitary pads.

LITERACY DAY
Reading introduces learners or readers to new words and phrases, enhancing their vocabulary and language comprehension. It also helps with exposure to well-written texts which help learners internalize correct grammar, sentence structure, and writing styles. Reading across all subjects helps learners grasp context and complex concepts in other spheres of other subjects. The more learners read, the better their writing becomes as they absorb diverse styles and techniques. Reading, on the other hand, encourages learners to think critically, analyze, problem-solving approaches and draw connections between different ideas.
