Today, we commemorate Youth Day and the Day of the African Child, celebrating the courage, resilience and potential of Africa's children and young people.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, we honour the young people who stood up for their right to quality education and helped shape the future of our nation.

This year's Day of the African Child theme, "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa," reminds us that every child deserves the basic services necessary to learn, grow and thrive with dignity.
