GRADE 10 LEARNER STABBED TO DEATH IN LETLHABILE.
NW Dept of Education MEC, Dr Desbo Mohono, has expressed deep sadness & strongly condemned the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old Grade 10 learner from Ikatisong Secondary School in Letlhabile Township near Brits.
According to the department, it received a report yesterday morning that the learner had allegedly been stabbed in the township. He was rushed to a local clinic but was unfortunately declared dead after sustaining a stab wound to the neck.
School and district officials proceeded to the clinic to establish the learner’s condition, where they were met with the devastating news of his passing.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased learner had allegedly been involved in disagreements with another learner since the previous week. The two allegedly encountered each other outside the school premises in the township, where the fatal stabbing reportedly took place.
Members of the community are said to have transported the injured learner to the local clinic, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
MEC Mohono conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the Mokhele family, friends, classmates, educators and the entire Ikatisong Secondary School community.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mokhele family during this painful time,” said Mohono.
She condemned violence among young people and urged learners to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflict.
“Violence has no place in our schools or communities. We urge learners to resolve disagreements peacefully and to seek assistance from parents, educators or school management when faced with conflict or threats,” she said.
Mohono also appealed to community members to cooperate with law-enforcement authorities and provide information that could assist with the ongoing investigation.
