The Mayor of Lephalale Local Municipality, Cllr Thabita Modise was among the delegation that celebrated the Commercial Operations Date (COD) milestone of the Lephalale Solar Project (LSP) by Exxaro Resources, through its wholly owned renewable energy business Cennergi.

This significant achievement for Exxaroโ€™s marked a decarbonisation journey and demonstrating the successful ex*****on of its Sustainable Growth and Impact strategy.

Located near Exxaro's Grootegeluk Mine in Lephalale, the plant is a behind-the-meter solar-photovoltaic facility that comprises 129,024 solar modules installed across 185 hectares, delivering 68 Megawatts of alternating current (MWac) at the point of connection.

The facility is designed to generate approximately 176 GW of renewable energy annually to supply renewable power directly to Grootegeluk Mine and significantly reduce reliance on grid-supplied electricity during daylight operating hours.

The project is underpinned by a 25 year power purchase agreement with Grootegeluk and is licensed for future Battery Energy Storage System integration, positioning LSP to deliver flexible dispatchable renewable energy as market opportunities evolve.

COURT ESTABLISHES THAT MOLOTO AND RACHIDI WERE IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP

POLOKWANE: The Polokwane High Court has established that Phillimon Moloto and Molebogeng Rachidi were in a romantic relationship prior to the arson incident.

The 51 - year old Moloto appeared before the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrateโ€™s Courts on charges of arson and malicious damage to property on Monday.

It is alleged that the owner of Moloto LADGAC vandalized and burnt the signature sign board of Lebo LADGAC which is based in Ladanna, Polokwane.

The Polokwane Magistrateโ€™s Court heard that Moloto and Rachidi were previously in a romantic and business relationship before they split.

However, reasons for the damage to property could not be established as they form part of police's ongoing investigations.

The mother of Lebo Rachidi, Elizabeth spoke to the media outside court, giving direction to the already tense situation between the accused and the complainant

"Moloto and Molebogeng broke up when Moloto removed her from the close cooperation agreement which also involved another business partner in the form of Agi Makhura," said Elizabeth

Rachidi said that the breakdown has seen the rehabilitation centre splitting into three parts, with one owned by Makhura, the other Moloto and the last one operated by Lebo.

Moloto was granted R50 000 bail in the matter and is expected back before court on 22nd September.

WINTER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME PROCEEDS SMOOTHLY IN LIMPOPO

The Limpopo Department of Education has officially commenced its Winter Enrichment Programme, aimed at providing academic support and strengthening learner performance ahead of the final examinations.

The programme accommodates 93 500 Grade 12 learners across 465 centres throughout the province, comprising both walk-in centres and residential camps to ensure access for diverse communities.

Targeting various subjects across the curriculum, the interventions are designed to address learning gaps, deepen understanding of critical concepts, and enhance overall learner achievement.

Running from Monday, 29 June, to Friday, 10 July 2026, the camps offer intensive tuition, revision sessions, and supplementary educational resources to adequately prepare learners for their upcoming assessments and final examinations.

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has extended her gratitude to educators for dedicating their holiday time to teaching, as well as to School Governing Bodies (SGBs) for their commitment to proper class planning. Parents are also acknowledged for their continued oversight and support during this critical period of learner development.

The MEC will conduct monitoring visits to various centres to engage with learners and educators, ensuring the effective implementation and impact of the programme.

"The Department remains committed to improving educational outcomes and creating opportunities that empower learners to reach their full potential. The enthusiastic participation of learners, educators and support staff reflects a shared commitment to academic excellence," said MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya.
