We are so happy to announce that we have partnered with West Coast Kids in Paternoster to open another chapter of YELA there.

Classes will be on Wednesdays from 15:00 to 17:00 and any grade five to grade seven student from Paternoster can apply to join us.

Application is easy:

Students that are interested in joining us, just need to write a story about why it is important to take care of nature and then email it to [email protected] before Monday the 8th of March 2021.

As soon as we've received all the stories we will work through them and the best stories will get their writers selected to YELA.

Every explorer knows that the key to success is to be well prepared.

Even for the unexpected.

As part of our mission to ensure every YELA explorer know how to navigate nature safely and responsibly, our YELA West Coast Fossil Park group explored what the priorities are to ensure you safely negotiate nature an we discussed how you prepare for an outing into nature as well as what you do if you get lost.

Meet our young explorers for the West Coast Fossil Park, chapter of YELA - Young Explorers Leadership Academy.

This past Friday we had our first class and students had a opportunity to set the stage for a year of adventure in nature, through exploring what it means to be an explorer and what places they would like to explore in the West Coast.

Joining the students in the picture are, National Geographic certified educator, Ron Moller, from Nature + Photo and Martina Mabuza, environmental educator for the West Coast Fossil Park.

As a Certified National Geographic Educator I am fortunate to be able to tap into the vast resources National Geographic has to offer, and use it at Young Explorers Leadership Academy.

The goal is simple:

The make the youth of the West Coast as passionate about exploring their world as humanly possible.

Dear Parents

We've extended the enrolment period for the 2021 YELA classes at the West Coast Fossil Park to the 26th of February 2021.

We understand that during these uncertain times decisions are often made in the last minute and we want to give your child every opportunity to participate in this exciting year of exploring nature and their own creativity.

If you enroll during this week, your child can still join us for the first class this coming Friday the 19th of February and if you can only enroll your child after the 19th, we will set a date with your child for extra classes to bring him or her up to speed.

PLEASE NOTE:

Every YELA student gets a water bottle, cap, buff, sunblock and, later in the year, his or her own individual medical kit and a compass for navigation.
For all late enrolments there will be a delay of approximately two weeks before we'll be able to supply the student with his or her kit, as we'll need to order the items and have some of it engraved and embroidered.
