Ms Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana, the Port Manager from Transnet, leading the Port Clean-up initiated by the WOMESA SA Governance Structure, welcomed the initiative. She addressed the gathering about the important role played by the Durban Port in supporting South Africa’s economy. She highlighted that the port facilitates the transportation of petroleum and chemicals, as well as the importation of goods, all of which contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth

She also congratulated WoMeSA SA Governance Structure for successfully hosting their annual general meeting and thanked everyone who participated in the beach and port cleaning initiative. She acknowledged the support of the MKRI and the presence of Executive Manager: Corporate Services, Adv. Mapipa, amongst other stakeholders and executive, in support of this important maritime and environmental initiative.

This initiative marked the first stakeholder engagement of the WOMESA SA which was aimed at the advancement of the maritime industry and the protection of marine life through environmental awareness.

Today, 26 August 2026, the Moses Kotane Research Institute participated as a strategic partner in the WOMESA South Africa Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026, held at Coastlands Hotel, Umhlanga, Durban. MKRI was invited to participate and exhibited at the programme, showcasing its work and contribution to research, innovation and strategic coordination that supports KwaZulu Natal in leveraging its ocean, coastal and maritime resources for sustainable economic development and job creation.

The AGM provided a platform for stakeholders to advance women’s empowerment, leadership, professional development, skills development and gender transformation within the maritime sector, while highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for women and young people. MKRI’s participation reinforces its commitment to knowledge sharing, strategic partnerships and evidence based development, contributing to an inclusive, innovative and sustainable maritime sector in KwaZulu-Natal.

🎓 Requirement: NQF Level 8 in Media Studies, Public Relations & Communications, or Marketing

🚗 Valid Driver’s Licence: Required
