Congratulations to both Harry Gwala Secondary and Wallacedene Secondary.

These two schools were recognized as two of the most improved public schools at the Provincial NSC 2020 Awards - Category: Most Improved Public Schools

Circuit 7:

Sizimisele Secondary School received recognition in the same category: Most Improved Public Schools.

Well done!


Circuit 3:

Bernadino Heights Secondary received a certificate of achievement for the largest number of candidates (180 candidates, 84.5% pass rate) who passed Business Studies in the 2020 NSC Examinations.

The school ranked Number 1 in this category.

SUBJECT: Celebrating World Mathematics Day, 14 March 2021
We will be celebrating: ‘‘World Maths day’’, on the 14 March 2021. The celebration theme is: ‘Mathematics for a better world’.

This is a time to be inspired and show off how our learners, observe special efforts in exploring “Mathematics for a better world”

We encourage you, our mind-blowing teacher, to be part of this numerical event.
Send all your photos, videos etc. to your Subject Advisor, where you might just be part of our termly newsletter. Continue to make an impact in our children’s lives by instilling, the love of Mathematics.

Dear friends: if you know of matric students who passed matric in 2020 or 2019, did Maths, Physics and / or Accountancy in which they scored 45 percent or more but want to improve their marks, then encourage them to apply to Stellenbosch University for this sponsored Schematus program. It gives matric students the opportunity to improve their matric marks in 2 of these 3 subjects in 2021, which allows them to enter university study in these areas in 2022. Today I was pleased to be joined at our Western Cape venue by our top achievers, announced by the national minister:

Top candidates:

✅3rd place in Quintile 5 and Nationally: Sonica Roux (Outeniqua HS)
✅2nd place in Quintile 3: Ayabukwa Nombela (Manzomthombo SS)
✅Special Ministerial Award: Sonja Jamima Jonkers (Jan Kriel School)

Mathematics:

✅1st place in Mathematics: Daniel Alwyn Gouws (Hermanus HS)
✅2nd place in Mathematics: Veren Naidoo (Rondebosch Boys HS)

Very well done to them all. It was a great pleasure to meet and celebrate with them.

For those candidates that did not achieve their desired results, there are options. I would encourage all learners who did not pass their exams not to give up and to continue doing whatever they can to complete Grade 12.

There are measures in place for anyone who is disappointed to receive counselling, either by approaching their school, which will put them in touch with the relevant people in the district offices, or by phoning the Safe Schools Hotline - 0800 45 46 47.

We will elaborate further on our province’s results tomorrow, but for now we wish our resilient and committed Western Cape Class of 2020 a hearty congratulations!
