Background

The Kgetleng rivier Local Municipality (NW374) is located in the Southeastern part of North West Province and forms part o

f Bojanala Platinum District Municipality (DC37), bordering Rustenburg Local Municipality on the west Ventersdorp Local Municipality (which falls under the Southern District Municipality) on the south, Ditsobotla Local municipality on the east, Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality (which falls on the Central District Municipality) on the north east as well as Moses Kotane on the north side. The Northern portion of the area is situated on one of the main SDI’s identified by National Government (Department of Trade and Industry in co-operation with the Department of Transport). It forms part of an explicit spatial programme aiming to unlock the inherent and under utilized economic development potential of specific spatial locations in South Africa.

Oversight Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs

The Portfolio Committee Oversight visited the Redirile Housing Project & Koster Bulk Water Pipeline on the 6th August 2026.

The North-West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements, allocated 365 housing units to Derby Redirile Extension 3 under the rural funding scheme.

The scope included the conversion of VIP toilet. The Redirile housing project is complete and houses were handed over and signed for by beneficiaries.

Koster Bulk Water Pipeline

Project Start date: 01 May 2022
and completed on the 18 June 2026. The project scope included the
construction of 355mm GRP bulk pipeline (15 km) and river crossings.

The new bulk water pipeline has significantly improved water supply reliability to Koster and Reagile residents, reduced water losses, reduced maintenance costs and enhanced long-term sustainability of the municipal water network.
