I decided to become a stay at home mum while the kids helped me grow into a mummy. While I was getting the hang of this role I formulated an idea of an APP in my spare time ( yes I had some time to spare in between the piles of laundry and mopping up:)

The APP is designed for parents and anyone working with children. The primary focus is to develop a child's handwriting in a developmental way. B

y developmental I mean ... we are not only concentrating on putting pen to paper ... but also looking at the elements of good handwriting. From posture to perceptual skills and then to holding a pencil correctly. Handwriting foundation was traditionally developed through free play, creativity and outdoor play. The reality for the current generation is that they start school earlier, stay in school for a longer part of their day and in general spend less time doing free play and general outdoor play. Kids are therefore having to pick up their pencils sooner and sitting at a desk for longer than any other generation. In this process they sometimes struggle without having built on their free play foundation. I hope that through the APP, page and blog I can help parents and individuals working with little people ensure that they covering all the bases for handwriting development. My world has opened up from the traditional clinic setting, home visits and parent workshops to the amazing blogging world made up of talented mums and teachers. Being able to reach across the globe and make an impact in homes and classroom. I am wildly excited at the possibility of connecting with all of you.

Why did OT Naz bring her iron to school 🤷🏻‍♀️… to iron the kids Hama Bead projects of course ! I got so much out of this activity. Aside from the obvious fine motor benefits - kids who really struggle with impulsivity did well with pacing themselves and demonstrated frustration tolerance.

Great activity for building child’s perceptual skills while working on finger dexterity Materials are styrofoam balls with toothpicks - you can use playdoh and make tiny little balls to add to the dexterity challenge or marshmallows - What could you use instead ?

Meet P-Rex (Piggy Rex) .. wanna be dinosaur. Humour is important in OT sessions and many kids find themselves laughing through a very difficult challenge without realizing it !

Index Focus Time. Spray bottle squirts = Finger Isolation ! Wrist Extension ! For an awkward pencil grasp increase strength and dexterity of the radial (thumb) side of the hand. This small spray bottle ticks many of those boxes ✔️

Tick tick DONE ! Timers are a great tool to use with kids that have difficulties completing tasks on time. Planning, motivation and time management are aspects of Executive Function. Using a timer and checklist system gives the child the visual they need with those that get lost in thought and side tracked. Pair it up with a reward and the child is motivated to complete those mundane tasks
