🌿 Working with nature to restore nature.

Our Wild2Earth division had the privilege of attending the official opening of the Skukuza Biocontrol Rearing Facility—an important milestone for conservation in Kruger National Park.

The public often hears about the protection of the Big Five and the fight against poaching. While this work remains critically important, much of the conservation taking place behind the scenes receives far less attention.

Alien and invasive plants can spread across thousands of hectares, displacing indigenous vegetation, reducing water availability and degrading the habitats that wildlife depends on. Without healthy ecosystems, there can be no healthy wildlife populations or iconic animals for future generations to experience.

It was an honor to hear from:

Biosyntrix was proud to be part of the first South African Tree Symposium, hosted by SANBI and the Botanical Society of South Africa at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
It was a great opportunity to spend two days with people from across research, conservation, forestry, horticulture, government and industry, all with a shared interest in the future of South Africa’s trees.
Biosyntrix also had the opportunity to present “From Detection to Decision: Building Connected Biosecurity Intelligence for Tree Pests and Diseases.”
Our presentation looked at something we work with every day: how we can connect field observations, surveillance, diagnostics, environmental data and technology in a way that helps people make better and quicker decisions.
One of the strongest messages from the symposium was the need for more collaboration across sectors. Tree health does not sit neatly within one industry or one organisation, and the challenges we face from pests, diseases, climate and changing environments will need a much more connected approach.
A big thank you to SANBI and the Botanical Society of South Africa for putting together the inaugural symposium, and to everyone who took the time to engage, share experiences and start new conversations.
We were glad to be part of the first one and look forward to seeing how SATS grows from here.

Yesterday, the Biosyntrix team joined Dr Schalk Schoeman and representatives from the Department of Agriculture’s Directorate: Plant Health Early Warning Division for a Macadamia field visit in the Barberton Valley.

The visit provided an important opportunity to discuss practical approaches to Macadamia Felted Coccid (MFC) surveillance, early detection, monitoring and response, while considering the broader biosecurity requirements of the South African macadamia industry.

Effective biosecurity depends on collaboration between growers, researchers, industry and government — supported by reliable surveillance, verified data and practical systems that can strengthen early warning and informed decision-making.

Biosyntrix is pleased to contribute its surveillance and digital biosecurity capabilities to these discussions, aligned with national plant-health priorities and internationally recognized phytosanitary principles.

Alternaria Brown Spot (ABS) remains one of the most challenging and economically damaging diseases in susceptible citrus cultivars.
In this CRI Podcast discussion, Prof Jacquie van der Waals, Researcher and Programme Coordinator: Preharvest Diseases, unpacks new CRI research aimed at helping growers manage ABS more effectively through improved cultivar screening and smarter disease prediction tools.

The discussion explores:

• the development of reliable inoculation and genetic screening methods
