🌿 Discovery Baskets: Learning from Everyday Things 🌿

Preschoolers are naturally curious about the world around them, and sometimes the simplest everyday objects can be more fascinating than the best toy! 😊

A discovery basket gives children the opportunity to explore objects using all five senses:

👀 Seeing
🤏 Touching
👂 Hearing
👃 Smelling
👅 Tasting — where appropriate and safe

You could include things like:
🖌️ Brushes
🌲 Pinecones
🥄 Everyday utensils
🧶 Different fabrics
🐚 Large shells or pieces of driftwood from the beach

Simple objects, endless opportunities for curiosity and discovery. 🌍✨

🎨 Painting Is More Than Just Creativity!

When we think of painting, we often think of artistic expression. In a Montessori preschool, it is also a wonderful Practical Life activity.

Before painting, children learn to:
🧑‍🎨 Put on an apron and prepare their workspace
🖌️ Use the brush, strengthening the muscles of the hand in preparation for writing
🧼 Clean their brushes and workspace when they are finished
📄 Place their artwork on the drying rack
🌱 Prepare the space for the next child

The creative part may be the fun, but all those little steps are helping children develop independence, coordination, responsibility and care for their environment.

It's amazing how much learning can happen through something as simple as picking up a paintbrush! 💛

A simple snack-making activity can be a surprisingly rich learning experience in a Montessori environment!

🥗 Nutrition: Learning about healthy food choices
🌱 Science: Discovering where food comes from and how it grows
🔢 Maths: Counting, measuring and exploring weight and volume
✋ Motor Skills: Developing hand-eye coordination, control and strength
🧼 Hygiene: Learning the importance of clean hands, food and surfaces
🤝 Grace & Courtesy: Practising sharing, serving and helping others

Preparing food is just one example of the many Practical Life activities in a Montessori toddler environment.

We currently have two teaching opportunities available:

🔹 Mathematics Teacher – Senior & FET
Teaching Mathematics from Grade 7–12.

🔹 Physical Sciences Teacher – Senior & FET
Teaching Natural Science in Grades 7–9 and Physical Sciences in Grades 10–12.

We’re looking for suitably qualified, passionate teachers who enjoy working as part of a dynamic and well-established team. IEB experience would be an advantage.

Children's questions are often the beginning of something wonderful.
Curiosity encourages us to look closer, explore possibilities and discover things for ourselves. Sometimes a question leads to an answer — and sometimes it leads to five more questions!

And that's okay.

Because learning isn't simply about knowing the answer. It's about developing the confidence to wonder, investigate, think and discover.

💛 Monday Moments

Parenting comes with plenty of advice, expectations and moments when we wonder if we're getting it right.

But sometimes the most valuable thing we can give our children isn't the perfect answer, the perfect solution or the perfect response.

It's simply our presence.

Listening. Encouraging. Giving them a hug. Sitting beside them when something feels difficult. Celebrating their successes and reminding them that mistakes are okay.

The little moments we sometimes overlook can mean the most to a child.

So, this Monday, a little reminder for all the parents out there:

You don't have to get everything right. Being there matters. 💛
