Fabulous workshop with great girls this morning.
They arrived as strangers to eachother and left as friends.
Their ages ranging from 25 to 85!
The girls created paintings that surprised themselves most of all.
So proud of all of you for being brave and creating out of the box and without any reference.

The next workshop will be on Monday the 21st of September

In my paint workshops we never work from reference.
Reference (photos) might be useful after you have images coming forward and ideas surfacing from your work....
But only then and only for a brief moment..
Look and leave
and go back to your intuitive painting.
That's the only way you will develop your own unique footprint.
Trust yourself and your process.

Wise words from a wonderful art teacher I follow, below:

"The photograph is only where the painting begins.
A reference photo gives you information - shapes, relationships, color, light, structure.

It does NOT tell you what the painting needs.
At some point, stop answering to the photo and start answering to the painting.
What needs to be simplified? What needs more weight? What can disappear? Where does the painting need something the photograph doesn’t give you?

That’s where interpretation begins.
The goal isn’t to prove how faithfully you can reproduce a photo.

It is to make a painting."
