NW Musikon Department of NW Education: Focus School for Music and Arts

The North-West Musikon is a focus school for the development of music registered by the Department of Education, the first of its kind in the educational history of the North West Province. We offer tuition in western classical music and pop/rock on woodwind, brass, strings, claviature, percussion, indigenous instruments and voice, as well as music theory and music as a school subject. We regard orchestral, ensemble and group work to be an essential part of musical training and offer a variety of performance opportunities in orchestras, ensembles, bands and choirs. The NW Musikon hosts the annual Rina de Bruyn Eisteddfodd and student concerts to promote performance opportunities. In addition, the NW Musikon runs a permanent gallery for works of visual art, sculpture and photography.

A massive congratulations to Wian Stander, a student of Mrs. Susan Pretorius for his outstanding performance at the Talent Africa National Championships!
Wian absolutely blew the judges away and walked away with a prestigious Platinum award for electric guitar! This incredible achievement follows his fantastic success earlier this year at the North West Regional qualifiers. 🏆
We are incredibly proud of your hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent, Wian! Congratulations also to his music teacher for guiding him toward this stellar result. Keep an eye out for this brilliant guitarist in the future! 🌟🔥

🎉 WHAT A NIGHT! 🎉

Last Friday, the NWM Symphony Orchestra brought the house down with our energetic Night Fever Concert! 🪩✨

From the very first note, the energy was off the charts! We danced and sang along to non-stop iconic hits like "It's Raining Men," "September," and Blondie’s "Maria." 🎶🔥

It was also an evening of immense pride as we celebrated our incredible young musicians:
🏆 SASCE Awards: A selection of our talented students were presented with honorary awards for their outstanding achievements at both the provincial and national levels of the 2026 SASCE competition!
🎓 Matric Recognition: We honored our Matric learners for their exceptional commitment, dedication, and years of musical excellence at the Musikon.

We were deeply privileged to have Mrs. Phatudi, Tswelelopele Circuit Manager, grace us with her presence and present these prestigious awards to our learners.

A massive thank you to our musicians, parents, guests, and community for making it a night to remember! 🎻🎺🥁

This year, our artists were challenged with interpreting "Pollination Nation" as the theme. As always, we were absolutely blown away by the pieces that were entered.
