Lovedale is proud to be part of the fifth annual Women Empowerment Photography Project, led by the Market Photo Workshop, currently being held at Tsitsikamma in the Eastern Cape.
The five-year initiative is made possible through the continued partnership between Market Photo Workshop, the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, (DSRAC) and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC).
The initiative provides young women with an opportunity to develop photography skills while documenting their communities, identities and lived experiences through their own creative perspectives.
The project is now in its second year year of collaboration with Lovedale TVET College. With its long institutional history and its role in vocational education and training, the College brings an important academic dimension to the project. The partnership is intended to strengthen and sustain the academic, accreditation and institutional pathways of the programme, creating opportunities for participants to receive recognised learning and to build on their creative skills beyond the project itself.
Through this collaboration, photography becomes more than an art form, but rather a platform for voice, storytelling, learning and empowerment.
