Life can be challenging, and at times it may feel overwhelming. During difficult periods, it is important to remember that your well-being matters and that support is available.
Seeking help, talking to someone you trust, or accessing professional support can make a meaningful difference. No one should have to face life's challenges alone.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's remind one another that every life has value and that reaching out for support is a sign of strength.

Current students are reminded that free counseling services are available through the Learner Affairs Support Offices at all College campuses.

Lusanda Mona enrolled at Lovedale TVET College in 2017 at King Campus. Although he initially studied Business Management, he later changed to Financial Management to pursue his passion for Accounting.

During his time at college, Lusanda became known for assisting fellow students who struggled academically. Through tutoring and mentoring his peers, he discovered a passion for teaching, leadership, and helping others succeed.

His journey in the TVET sector began in 2020 as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) student, where he gained experience across various departments, including Registration, Finance, Bursaries, and Administration. These experiences helped shape his professional growth and reinforced the importance of continuous learning and stepping outside his comfort zone.

After graduating in 2021, Lusanda continued to build his career within the TVET sector while furthering his studies. In 2026, he graduated with an Advanced Diploma from Nelson Mandela University and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education through the University of Johannesburg.

As we commemorate Youth Month, Lusanda encourages young people to believe in themselves, embrace lifelong learning, and seize every opportunity to grow.

Youth unemployment remains a challenge, but education, skills development, and determination can open doors. TVET colleges continue to play a critical role in equipping young people with practical skills that prepare them for the world of work and entrepreneurship.

Message to the Youth:

"Never allow your circumstances to define your future. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep showing up for your dreams. Success is built one step at a time."

For many years, men have been encouraged to keep their emotions to themselves and face challenges in silence. However, real strength is not about pretending that everything is okay. It is about recognising when you need support and having the courage to speak up.

Talking about what you are going through is not a sign of weakness, it is a positive step towards taking care of your mental wellbeing.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's help create an environment where men feel comfortable expressing their feelings and seeking support when they need it.

Current students are reminded that free counselling services are available through the Learner Affairs Support Offices at all College campuses.
