DID YOU KNOW?

Every sense comes with its own built-in sidekick: a primitive reflex that's ready to awaken the senses (body awareness, touch, balance, smell, taste, hearing, and vision), tune them up, and help the brain grow stronger connections.

Could a retained primitive reflex be behind some "sensory" behaviours?

When a primitive reflex doesn't integrate through sensory play and go to rest, it may show up as hypersensitivity, sensory-seeking behaviours, or difficulties processing sensory information. As a result, a child may be described as having "sensory issues" when, in fact, an underlying retained primitive reflex could be contributing to those challenges.

A child might then instinctively become a sensory seeker—constantly moving, touching, spinning, crashing, or exploring—as if their brain is searching for the experiences needed to support brain development.

💡SENSORY PLAY is nature's way of maturing the brain and sensory-motor system, helping children become bright-eyed, confident, and able to move, learn, and behave in age-appropriate ways.

COULD RETAINED PRIMITIVE REFLEXES BE HOLDING YOUR CHILD BACK?

Does your child struggle with:

* Anxiety
* Clumsiness or low body awareness
* Poor balance
* Low muscle tone
* Tactile defensiveness
* ADD/ADHD
* Dyslexia
* Delayed language development
* Poor auditory processing
* Poor perception

These challenges may be linked to retained primitive reflexes.

Primitive reflexes play a vital role in wiring a baby's nervous system from conception until approximately six months after birth. Once their job is done, they should become dormant, allowing higher brain functions to develop.

However, trauma, injury, or early developmental challenges can cause these reflexes to remain active. This may interfere with learning, emotional regulation, confidence, coordination, and overall development—even in children who are bright, capable, and eager to learn.

A comprehensive Mind Moves Reflex Assessment can help identify retained primitive reflexes, provide valuable insight into your child's development, and guide you towards the next steps in supporting their growth.

KAN AKTIEWE PRIMITIEWE REFLEKSE JOU KIND TERUGHOU?

Ervaar jou kind enige van die volgende?
* Angs
* Lompheid en/of lae liggaamsbewustheid
* Lae spiertonus
* Tasdefensiwiteit
* Swak balans
* ADD/ADHD
* Disleksie
* Onderontwikkelde taalvermoë
* Onderontwikkelde ouditiewe prosesseringsvermoë
* Lae perseptuele vaardighede

A CHILD AT PLAY = A CHILD AT WORK

Play is a joyful way of learning without the pressure to perform. Through different stages of play, children imitate, explore, and absorb the social skills, behaviours, and experiences they see in their culture and everyday environment.

When a child plays, they are often mirroring what they have experienced. This is why one of the favourite games for many young children is caring for a doll, pretending to cook, clean, or look after others. Through these pretend experiences, children make sense of the world around them.

A child at play is literally “trying on” life — practising what they see others do and learning:

• How to process and express their feelings
• How to interact and get along with others
• The names of things (nouns) and the words that describe actions (verbs)
• How to use their bodies and fingers with increasing skill and control.

Play is not “just play” — it is the child’s work. It is how they learn, grow, and develop.
