The world is hurting.
The world is healing.
The world is holding on.

Genesis from IreOlúwa is a prayer in the form of a song. A sonic offering born from a time when the world is going through a lot wars, loss, division, displacement, and yet, still so much beauty and resilience.

This song is dedicated to the world and to all who live in it. To every soul trying, to every heart grieving, to every spirit still choosing love.

It is not just music. It is a cleansing. A return. A beginning.

From the ancient to the now, we call forth peace, restoration, and remembrance of our shared humanity.

DAY 2 & FINAL DAY: UHADI INSTRUMENT MAKING WORKSHOP

What a beautiful close to our two-day Uhadi instrument-making journey!

Our members at Amandla Dança Teatro ZA have successfully completed and crafted their own Uhadi instruments under the expert guidance of our facilitator Kgalalelo Mofolo a proud Kimberlite and Lecturer at the North West University.

The workshop began with a powerful demonstration. Kgalalelo showed us not just how to make the instrument, but how to _breathe_ life into it how to play it. Our beautiful facilitators joined in with soulful vocals, creating a moment of true indigenous harmony as the sound of the Uhadi filled the room.

Participants then completed their own instruments and each had the opportunity to demonstrate how to play what their hands had made. The joy and pride in the room was palpable.

Did you know?

The Uhadi is an indigenous/traditional bow instrument of the Khoe and Xhosa people. It is an unbraced musical bow where the wooden bow is strung with gut or wire and attached to iSelwa (calabash) which resonates and amplifies the sound. The bow is played with uMqungu (a be**er) made from a thin stalk of grass, often plucked from roof-thatch, which is beaten against the string to produce its deep, earthy and meditative tone.

This workshop was more than instrument-making - it was heritage preservation, skills transfer, and cultural reclamation.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our facilitator Kgalalelo Mofolo for sharing her knowledge, her voice, and her spirit with us.

The music of our ancestors lives on!

Youth Month 2026: Honouring 50 Years Since 1976

This June marks 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising a defining moment led by young people who carried the fight for justice with unwavering courage.

To honour their legacy, young artists from the Sol Plaatje Municipality will use their talents to remember, reflect, and inspire. Following the success of our Take a Child to the Theatre campaign on 20 March 2026, we’re inviting young audiences and their families to join us again not just as spectators, but as active contributors.

How you can support

We’re calling for donations of clothes, sanitary towels, and canned food. All contributions will go directly to vulnerable members of our community.

Youth Day Programme

Our 16 June programme speaks to the spirit of 1976 while building the South Africa we want now: unity in diversity, national reconciliation, social cohesion, and a shared identity. It’s about mass participation — professionals and young people creating together, on stage and off.

Fundraiser Performance

We’ll also present our award‑winning musical IreOlúwa, ahead of its run at the National Arts Festival, 25 June – 05 July 2026. This showcase doubles as a fundraiser to get our cast to Makhanda.
