KIMBERLEY BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE CLUB

1 August 2026. Diamond Rush.

The KHS Debate Club competed at Northern Cape High School in the Diamond Rush Tournament, hosted by the Northern Cape Debate Association.

Shemuel Semunza was named Second Best Junior Speaker overall, adding another accolade to a promising collection. Alongside Lesego Setlogelo and Dikano Segooa, he helped take the Junior team to the Plate Final, where they brought home the trophy.

All three Juniors qualified for the Provincial Trials, with a chance to earn selection for the Northern Cape team at Nationals.

Our Seniors, Tawananyasha Ndowe, Onalerona Mampe and Nyakallo Tlisane, also qualified. Tawananyasha enters his third Trials, while Onalerona and Nyakallo return for their second.

Tawananyasha and Onalerona were selected for the Northern Cape team last year, while Nyakallo competed at Nationals. For Tawananyasha and Nyakallo, this is the final chapter of their high school debating careers.

Three Juniors. Three Seniors. One more step.

The tradition of celebrating excellence

"Excellence should never produce arrogance; it should produce humility and a willingness to lift others." - M. Cindi (2011)

Yesterday the school’s top three academic achievers in each grade were treated to the termly breakfast at The Heights to celebrate their achievements.

The term 2 breakfast was proudly sponsored by Mr Mlungisi Cindi (2011) who is also the sitting Chairperson of the Kimberley High School Od Boys’ Union. Mr Cindi joined the boys who were accompanied by the Headmaster, Mr X Taba, The SGB Chairman, Mr T. Ntangana and Mr J. van Niekerk the Head of English as well as Curriculum (Teaching and Learning).

Mr Cindi came wearing his mentorship cap, having carefully analysed the boys’ achievements. He congratulated each one of them, singling out some exceptional successes from some of the boys. In his well thought and profoundly apt speech, he shared frankly, without mincing his words, what being at the top entailed, and we quote parts of his speech:

“For the Top Achievers in this room, ethical leadership begins now. It is reflected in submitting honest work, respecting teachers and fellow learners, helping classmates who are struggling, accepting responsibility for mistakes and refusing to compromise personal values for recognition or popularity. These daily choices form the foundation of the leaders you will become. The habits developed at school will follow you into university, the workplace, public service, business and community leadership.

Your results have given you influence. Younger learners will observe how you conduct yourselves, how you respond to pressure and how you treat others. You therefore have a responsibility to lead by example. Excellence should never produce arrogance; it should produce humility and a willingness to lift others. A true Top Achiever does not only ask, “How far can I go?” He also asks, “Who can I help to rise with me?””.

He also borrowed from Tata Nelson Mandela to reinforce his narrative:

““Lead from the back — and let others believe they are in front.”
True leadership is rooted in humility and service. Great leaders do not seek recognition for themselves; they empower others to succeed. As learners, your greatest achievement will not only be your own success, but also the positive influence you have on your classmates, families and communities”.

The breakfast which is run by the headmaster’s office has opened the opportunity of its sponsorship to the KHS Community. Mr Cindi grabbed the first opportunity and the benefit to the boys was promptly evident. A conversation on topics that matter, in a formal set up with an interested stakeholder – equals one of the sure ways of raising a fine boy child.

A warm thank you to Mr Cindi for the sponsorship of the breakfast and his relevant talk with the boys.

Mid-year Top 10 academic results

We make it a point to celebrate the hard work, commitment and achievement of our learners. Yesterday we celebrated those who earned their place in the Top 10 for the mid-year examinations.

These young men demonstrate that consistent effort, discipline and determination can reap rewards. Some have been as consistent as a metronome, holding on to their positions and refusing to budge, some have "yoyod" up and down the top 10 positions, yet some have burst on to the scene with such force from obscure previous positions, pleasantly surprising themselves (we are sure) and the school. These are the movers and shackers. However our top 10 pans out each term, we look forward to the dynamics and are proud of the boys' achievements which are a credit to themselves, their families and the school.

Congratulations to each of our Top 10 achievers. We are excited with you at what you have accomplished so far and encourage you to continue striving for excellence as the year progresses.

Academic Excellence

Kimberley Boys’ High School is proud to be ranked 10th in the Francis Baard District based on the 2026 mid-year Grade 12 results.

Adding to this remarkable achievement, two of our Grade 12 learners secured positions in the Top 10 learners in the Frances Baard District:

- Destiny Ntahonde achieved an impressive 3rd place overall in the district with an aggregate of 93%.
