JOT Reading Club

JOT Reading Club JOT (Jesus Our Teacher) Reading Club helps the children of Ekuphumleni to better engage with languages and enriches their lives by making learning fun.

Even though the JOT (Jesus Our Teacher) Reading Club has been running for over a decade in Ekuphumleni near Kenton on Sea, we are newcomers to Facebook! Reading involves far more than holding a book. One needs to experience hearing a language, practise speaking that language and then only will reading start to take on meaning. We therefore not only teach phonics and sight words at JOT, but also tr

y to enrich each child’s experience through craft, games, puzzles, rhymes, story-telling, singing, treasure-hunts...... Outdoor games are also a hit and our beach excursions are not easily missed.

Singing is an important part of our programme. Even more so when you have rhythm sticks and shakers.

We followed the theme of "hats" by reading Julia Donaldson’s “Hippo has a Hat”; identifying different types of hats; and picking our very own hand knitted beanies.
