…food/household plastic…over the last few years of collecting ‘food plastic' for plarning, a lot of other ‘unsuitable' food plastic ended up in the collection.

The food/household plastic is now being collected in two different collection points, one purely for plarning and the other for re-creating into items made out of thicker or different plastic. This has made for interesting observations around the ‘plastic traffic' in our home.

This Bokomo pencil case has received much attention when I am out and about, many people cannot believe that it has a zip sewn in and functions just like a store bought one.

I'm amazed by how long this creation has already lasted considering when I was sewing it, some of the plastic tore, added 2cm of top-stitching and still doing the job! Literally travels everywhere with me in my bag. It has been going strong for a good year already and still as good as newly made…

Cost to make it = 30cm piece of zip and a zip slider and a few metres of sewing cotton = under R5

Tuesdays is our Krispy Kreme Doughnuts day, in the summer the half-price freezos are our treat but today it is coffees with free OG's.

…knitting, a therapy I've been doing for 40 years, these days with digital photo collections it is by far easier to track all my creations.  Recent reflecting is building the realisation that I have probably created well over 300 wearable items already (excluding beanies and booties).

It's always a wonderful out-of-town-outing visiting their ‘everything' is always super awesome!!!  Their white goats are truly too cute too…

I'm actually on a very strict wool diet! Which doesn’t allow me to budget for nor buy wool!

I'm also ‘moderating' the time I spend knitting on the daily down to more or less a ‘therapy hour'.

The jackets being show-cased today work on a different concept…Mommy and Daddy provide the wool and I create the warmth for their children with it…technically using therapy time!

Total cost to me 13 buttons x R0.40 = R5.20, this gives me the opportunity to visit the Nugget shops in the Jozi CBD and get the zip supplies I need once in a whlle…

These jackets get personalised as well with the children's names, another post to follow soon :-)

…earlier this year ‘plarning’ (plastic yarn) was very much the therapy of choice and I managed to complete a 1m round mat in record time…roughly two months…the one photographed on the bricks with the pink centre.

It's always a treat visiting Cut and Craft their Twos Tuesday Special works super well for a family of three as we pay for two and get the cheapest Burger or Pizza for free.

Plarning has been a feature in my crafting career since I became interested in how many ladies I've seen crocheting plastic shopping bags into mats and hats. Last year whilst cutting a bag I spotted the date/year - 2015, which indicates that I have been doing this craft for a good ten years now. I am at the point where my plastic stash is almost non-existent and since 2025 I now ‘collect-to-be-able-to-make’.

I finished a ‘mesh' mat in early December (the one photographed with the metal ruler) that was in creation for 4 years, for this mat I cut all the plastic myself and because it was using specific bags
, those that have a breathing mesh in them, it took some time to collect the quantity of bags needed. I've worked out that one needs roughly 130-150 bags to make a 1m round mat.

…join me on my journal/journey of self-recognition/awareness whilst sometimes enjoying something nice somewhere…

It's always a treat visiting Bembom their slogan 'Live The Moment', and their super reasonable flat white and nibble/treat special at R49.00, whilst sewing up a little grey knitted creation.

Roughly 7 years ago (2018), what was intended to be an empowerment project was started, this included the re-creating of an oven glove pattern that stemmed from my Technikon Witwatersrand days…now the University of Johannesburg. Approximately 13 years ago (2012) a mission of self-exploration commenced, there were so many questions I set on a quest to obtain answers too…

67 projects have very much featured in these last years, more recently not so much, however this year I am celebrating myself, the intended ‘empowerment' that actually is proving to be self-empowerment, the gratitude for abundance and availability of resources.

Two of the very large topics I've dwelled on are those of time and money and over the years working smarter and more frugally and thriftily have most certainly paid off in both aspects.

Today's word/topic of reflection – adaptability

Today's foodie topic - Taste of Today

One of the more recent therapies I've identified after yarn and plarn is paper and it is in sorting and sifting through the last 25 years of sentimental paper that still exists, that I realize just how far the world of food has evolved, this ties back to my Home Economics/Food Service Management roots.
