We will be attending next year....

I'm pleased to confirm that the official invitation for the 2026 WUKF South African National Championships & Afro-Asia Open will be released to all South African and International WUKF affiliates early next week.

The Championships will once again take place at the Boardwalk Hotel and International Convention Centre in Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth (29th April - 3rd May).

Competitors will have the opportunity to compete in Shobu Nihon Kumite (12yrs and under), Shobu Sanbon Kumite (13yrs+), Shobu Ippon Kumite (13yrs+), Kobudo Categories (Long and Short Weapons), Team Kata, Team Kumite as well as Inclusive Categories for those living with disabilities. Categories will once again be divided according to novice, intermediate and elite level for children, cadets, juniors, seniors and veterans.

Our objective is to provide South African WUKF karate and kobudo practitioners affordable access to a professional event which offers top class national and international competition. Competitors can enter up to five categories for a total entry fee of less than a R1000!

The organisers have also pledged to fully sponsor the entry fees for two deserving competitors from each WUKF affiliated federation in South Africa.

The Championship will be held over four days and is expected to attract representation from across South Africa as well as a strong international contingent from Africa, the African Island Nations, Europe, United Kingdom and the Americas.

Gqeberha's "Golden Mile" Beach Front will once again provide the perfect setting for what is expected to be a superb Championship and celebration of WUKF Karate and Community!

Congrads to all that competed.... Making SA proud.

WUKF South Africa Shines on the World Stage at WUKF World Championships! 🌍🥋🇿🇦

In our very first appearance as WUKF South Africa, our team has made history. We finished 8th overall in the medal standings – marking the first time ever that South Africa has placed in the top ten at a WUKF World Championship! We brought home an incredible 31 medals in total, a testament to the skill and determination of our athletes.

Medal Tally: 9 🥇 Gold, 11 🥈 Silver, 11 🥉 Bronze – 31 medals overall. This phenomenal haul exceeded all expectations for a debut outing and showcased the strength of South African karate and kobudo on the global stage.

Competition Scale: This was no small tournament. Athletes from 33 countries (across 66 federations) took part – 1,709 competitors with 3,822 entries in total. The championship was truly world-class, with a high standard of competition and widespread international coverage. Despite facing the very best from around the globe, our team rose to the challenge and proved that South Africa can stand toe-to-toe with the world’s top karate and kobudo nations.

For a first-time team, WUKF SA’s performance was nothing short of outstanding. The passion, grit, and sportsmanship our karateka displayed have made our country proud. 🇿🇦 Every kata, kumite and kobudo match showed the world the heart of South African martial arts.

We are beyond proud of each and every athlete and coach who contributed to this historic success. A huge thank you to all the supporters and families who cheered us on from back home – your encouragement fueled our fighters on the tatami. 🙌

And this is just the beginning. With this record-breaking debut, the future of WUKF South Africa looks brighter than ever. Stay tuned for a full report coming soon, where we’ll highlight all our medal winners and share photos from this unforgettable event. 🎉

Let’s celebrate this amazing achievement together – South Africa, we made history!
