Expanding Horizons, Transforming Futures!

Yesterday, the Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute (TARDI) proudly extended its geographical footprint to the uMkhanyakude District, KwaZulu-Natal, where we engaged with learners from 12 high schools during the uMkhanyakude Career Day.

It was a privilege to honour the invitation of Dr Nomalungelo Gina, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, whose commitment to ensuring that science, technology and innovation are accessible to every young South African continues to inspire opportunities for future generations.

Through our interactive exhibition, TARDI showcased the exciting world of Animal Health, Veterinary Science and Agricultural Education, giving learners firsthand exposure to modern veterinary equipment, practical demonstrations and the diverse career pathways available in the agricultural sector.

Our participation reflects TARDI’s unwavering commitment to:
✅ Expanding access to higher education information beyond provincial borders.
✅ Inspiring rural youth to pursue careers in agriculture, veterinary science and rural development.
✅ Supporting national efforts to build a skilled workforce capable of advancing food security, animal health and sustainable agricultural development.
✅ Creating opportunities for learners to make informed career choices through direct engagement with higher education institutions.

The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the learners reaffirmed the importance of taking career guidance directly to communities, ensuring that no learner is left behind because of geography or limited access to information.

We thank the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, the National Research Foundation (NRF), SAASTA, the organisers, educators and participating schools for creating a platform that empowers young minds to dream bigger and aim higher.

At TARDI, Excellence Through Practice is more than our motto—it is our commitment to developing the next generation of agricultural and animal health professionals who will shape South Africa’s future.
