um and I believe that I add value by providing the best advice and quality work possible. My personal motto is “honest, ethical, diligent”. Most importantly, I try to understand what my clients want and need from me and I advise them accordingly. My career started as a geologist with Union Corporation in 1973 on St Helena Gold Mine after completing the BSc Eng Mining Geology degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. Completion of an MSc degree (cum laude) at the University of Stellenbosch in 1977 was followed by a brief stint as a temporary lecturer in Stellenbosch, before I spent three years as a mineralogist at Mintek. From 1980 to 1997 the University of Natal employed me as an Antarctic Officer of the South African National Antarctic Earth Sciences Programme, of which I became the head during the 1990s. My PhD topic (1986) was on the petrology and geochemistry of intrusions in Antarctica. From 1994 I was an Associate Professor on the Durban campus of the University of Natal and during this period I acted as the South African representative to the international body which coordinates geological research by member states of the Antarctic Treaty. During 1997 I returned to industry, working as a geology manager at JCI and as a Senior Advisor for The Mineral Corporation. I am registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
