Dear WSOA colleagues and students

In the wake of the continued violence on and around the campus overnight, we remain acutely concerned for everyone’s well-being. We are aware that the campus hasn’t been safe and could like to offer continued support to our students and colleagues. Please assist me to distribute this message widely, especially to anyone who may have been directly affected.

In the process of setting up the WSOA’s Drop-In Debriefing space this past week, we have established access to a network of debriefing counsellors and psychologists who have offered their services free of charge to anyone who needs to work through what they have experienced.

Since the Drop-In Debriefing space can only be open when staff are in the building during daytimes during the week, two colleagues have kindly made themselves available to offer referrals by telephone over the weekend. If people currently need referrals, please call Warren Nebe and/or Natasha Christopher at the following numbers:
Warren: 073 671 2500
Natasha: 084 600 0160

Do feel free to make use of this service, not only in the immediate aftermath of difficult experiences but as we continue to navigate this challenging time for our extended community. Often, processing trauma has delayed effects.

On behalf of us all, I extend our gratitude to Natasha, Warren and other colleagues who are helping with this initiative. Let’s continue to advance WSOA as a humanising space in the midst of the polarisation around us.

Sincerely
