Assumption Convent School

Assumption Convent School Private School from Six weeks of age to Grade 12
Co-Education from 6 weeks to Grade 3

Assumption Convent School is a private Catholic day School for girls from Grades 1-12, but co-ed from 6 weeks to Grade 0, the school is situated in Johannesburg. The school was founded in 1946 by the Missionary Sisters of the Assumption. We promise your daughter an education that opens doors – spiritual, academic, social and vocational – in a caring, nurturing environment. In addition to what all

top independent schools offer - rigorous academic study and numerous sporting and cultural activities - we are a Catholic Girls School. Being Catholic ensures a solid grounding in Christian values, helping all our pupils (Catholic and non-Catholic) to reach their full potential and become caring citizens. Being a girls only school will enhance your daughter’s learning experience. This is supported by extensive research which shows that single-sex schools often produce superior academic results, and consistently outperform their co-educational counterparts. Single-sex schools also allow coaches to develop sporting skills more effectively. Despite fierce competition from other independent girls schools, we continue to grow and thrive. Our small classes, dedicated staff and excellent facilities - all offered at an affordable price - makes Assumption Convent School one of the sought after girls schools in Johannesburg.

MATRIC FEATURE: Arsema Tekle

Most Valuable Lesson: The most valuable lesson I learnt from high school is that hard work and consistency pay off. There were times when things felt difficult, but I learnt that staying committed and not giving up can take you further than you expect.

Most Memorable Moment: My most memorable moment was being part of the prefect election. It was a special experience because it challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, believe in myself and show my leadership skills. It is something I will always remember from my high school experience.

Plans for 2027: In 2027, I hope to begin my journey towards my future career. I’m interested in pursuing dentistry and psychology, as both fields interest me in different ways. I’m excited to see where the next chapter takes me and to continue working towards my goals.

Most Valuable Lesson: The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in high school is that you can’t force people to value you, and outgrowing certain friendships, even painful ones is necessary to find out who you really are.

Most Memorable Moment: The most memorable moments for me were the times me and my friends would crack inside jokes in the back of the classroom, during the most boring classrooms.

Plans for 2027: I want to pursue studies in law, building a career where I can advocate for others, sharpen my critical thinking, and tackle complex real-world challenges.
Beyond academics, my plan for 2027 is to focus heavily on personal independence, stepping into new environments, and surrounding myself with people who challenge me to grow.

MATRIC FEATURE: Allegra Sandiford

Most Valuable Lesson: Surround yourself with people who support you, not those who make you doubt yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—the more you ask, the more you learn.

Most Memorable Moment: There are countless memorable moments from my time at Assumption Convent, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the Matric Dance.

Plans for 2027: I want to speak up and protect those who don’t have a voice, which is why I plan to study environmental or animal rights law.

Most Valuable Lesson: The most valuable lesson I’ve learned during high school is that it’s not about who knows you the longest, it’s about who makes you feel seen, heard, appreciated, supported and loved.

Most Memorable Moment:
Performing in my first one-act plays in Grade 10.

Plans for 2027:
To pursue studies in interior design while continuing to cherish quality time with the people who matter most to me.
