On the 12th of June 2026, Eastcape Midlands TVET College proudly launched its 4IR Centre of Excellence and Learning Factory, a transformative initiative that will equip young people with future-ready skills and strengthen South Africaโs innovation ecosystem.
Established with funding support from the merSETA and ETDP, the Centre will provide students with exposure to emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing, automation, and digital skills aligned to industry needs.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube, highlighted the importance of investing in people and skills, stating:
"Technology alone does not transform education. People do."
She further emphasized: "This investment is ultimately about you. It is about creating opportunities for you to succeed."
And challenged the youth to become creators and innovators:
"We should not just consume what is manufactured by other people. We should manufacture our own things."
Delivering remarks on behalf of merSETA, the Acting CEO reaffirmed the organisationโs commitment to building a skilled and capable workforce that is responsive to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and to strengthening partnerships that empower young people with industry-relevant skills and opportunities.
