It is with great sadness that we remember Ronnie Gill, former Deputy Head of St Martin’s School, who passed away on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
Ronnie gave so much to our school — as a teacher, musician, mentor, storyteller and friend — and his influence continues to be felt in the lives of generations of St Martin’s pupils.
Long-standing colleague and friend Ruth Engela shares some of her memories of Ronnie, capturing the warmth, humour, wisdom and faith of a truly special member of our school community.
May he rest in peace, and rise in glory.

Preparing tomorrow's leaders by learning from yesterday's.
Our Form 4 students had the privilege of welcoming William de Pinho, St Martin's Head Boy of 1976, to their classroom for an inspiring lesson on leadership, service, and the school's rich history.
William shared what it was like to be Head Boy during a time when St Martin's was an all-boys school, recalling the unforgettable moment his name was announced as Head Boy and the pride he felt as the boys roared in celebration. He also spoke about his career in the Air Force, where he led two tours, and reflected on the lessons that shaped him as a leader.
One message resonated with everyone: "Your attitude determines your altitude."
Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions, hear first-hand experiences, and gain valuable insights into what it means to lead with integrity, courage, and purpose.
A sincere thank you to William de Pinho for sharing his time, wisdom, and experiences with our students. Your story has inspired the next generation of St Martin's leaders.
